Plausible or full of sh1t? I think it's a bold move since LTA will sure rebut strongly? Also very puzzled by the insufficient all red comment. How long do you want the all red to be?

Lawyers representing the family of the Ferrari driver who died in the Rochor Road crash have blamed the incident on "poor traffic conditions" and "surroundings".

 

The Ferrari driver, Ma Chi, beat a red light and crashed into a taxi and a motorcycle at the Rochor Road traffic junction.

 

The family's lawyers from Drew & Napier LLC also said the actions of the Ferrari driver who was a financial investor from Sichuan, were "unintended, unexpected and/or fortuitous". The May 12 crash killed the taxi driver and his Japanese passenger and injured the Ferrari passenger and the motorcyclist.

 

They argued that the placement of the traffic lights at the junction "made it difficult for motorists to spot the traffic signals readily and easily", among other reasons. Their documents also stated that this led to vehicles having a "high likelihood" of failing to comply with traffic lights that just turned red against them.

 

Adding on, the lawyers said the traffic-light system at the junction "did not provide sufficient time" for an "all-red phase" -- where all vehicles would stop at the junction. The junction was also labelled a "black spot" by the Land Transport Authority for the frequency of accidents there (over 15 accidents resulting in deaths or injuries in three years).

 

Mr Ma's family lawyers were responding to a counter-claim and defence filed in the High Court on Sept 3 by lawyers acting for AXA Insurance Singapore who had withdrawn its coverage for the crash as it was "highly probably, foreseeable and to be expected".

 

The lawyers from United Legal Alliance LLC also said it was a "collision", which meant the driver was aware that his actions would cause an accident, thereby voiding the insurer's liability to make a payout.

 

However AXA told The Straits Times it would compensate the families of the third parties who were injured or killed in the crash.

Some roads have cross junctions so close to each other that you can see the traffic light of the further junction and not realise the nearer ones. In CCK, the overhead bright across the KJE is such example. I've seen many times that some motorist thought it was green as they saw the further traffic light is green but the nearer one is still red.

but after midnight hard to say cos there is no car in front to gauge and slow you down.

I can relate to the idea of poor traffic light placement. Eu Tong Sen St opposite Pearl Centre have 2 traffic lights very close to each other and it is easy to miscue if you never look properly.

 

Having said that someone on another forum asked a succint question.

benefit of doubt is people may not be familiar with the road, so regardless of fast or slow miscue happen!

 

having said, no ground to argue when come to a speed at 150km/h

That entirely plausible especially when you are travelling at 200kmh. In fact the entire landscape is a mix of red , bllue , green blur

What crap. He was speeding at 150km/h or more! HE will not be able to brake on time even if he wanted to.

Its a fatal JUDGEMENT and RISK that he undertake himself with that speed! He's highly educated so at least they can't claim he was clueless and play the dumb card.

 

This road stretch is a normal road. He should be aware as when converting driving license, he was examed that normal roads at 50km/h unless indicated leh.

Another likely possibility is that due to his ankles suffering for sporadic jerking motions, caused by to his situational position, resulting in his car to travel so fast that red shift occurs..meaning red light appears to be green, hence he is not culpable for the purely accidental mix of fortuitous coincidences

Luckily he is only beginning to drive off slowly, the cross traffic horned him and he quickly roll back....

Luckily he is only beginning to drive off slowly, the cross traffic horned him and he quickly roll back....

 

In cases like these, where 2 traffic lights are near to each other, the tendency is you only see the further one and miss out the nearer one. In MC's case, the further traffic light that he ran is red.
