nowadays, those euro van/lorry driver 'forget' they are driving commercial vehicle due to the nice interior that look like passenger car.

so they forget their speed limit.

lta should put back the commercial vehicle blinking light and in-car buzzer.

so the driver will remember they are in commercial vehicle and tp/lta can spot speeding ones easily.

of if they want to go faster, pay passenger car road tax which is much more expensive than their 'company' registered good vehicle.

 

 

I tink is the driver bo chap, bcos TP not around catching them anymore......is not forgetting wat they are driving....... i cruising at 2nd lane at 90km/h, vans can zoom past me at lane 1....don know wat speed though.....

Zoom past you still fine rather than these vehicles tailgate you from behind and flash their headlights at you. <_<

Not a good idea, 70km/h people already going at 80-90km/h, increasing to 90km/h they will speed at more than 100km/h.

 

I actually agreed with what Jeremy Clarkson once said, "speed doesnt kill, its the sudden stop that will".

 

Was fortunate to go HK and Taiwan this year, the vehicular population should be as much as our climate here but are much bearable in my opinion.

I did email the governing body on the blinking light but they replied me with a statement which didnt answer my question. Guess it needs some more prodding to get things moving.

this is a good example of thinking out of the chalk box, however, with the afraid-to-make-changes governing body, it would be a tough cookie.

I don't mind sharing. That being said our other bro's have stated that the real cause is the increase in vehicle population. Perhaps its time for LTA to tweek its ERP formula to create staggered timings. e.g. Make it $10 for goods vehicles to enter the 3 zones from say 7am to 9am, then make it $10 for passenger vehicles to enter between say 9am and 11am while its free for goods vehicles etc.

 

 

Good one, this recommendation means good sense as it promotes similar vehicle type at the same time band, thus increasing overall speed (ideally).

Wah then you can see many customer's like the F&B chains don't get their fresh stocks, so no fresh foods for people working in the zones, so what's going to happen next?

Hi All,

 

I am a frequent commuter of the expressways in Singapore. Noticed that the trucks (with up to 70km/h sticker at the back) like to go onto lane 2 on the expressways. Are there any reasons why LTA/TP/whoever made the decision to allow this to happen?

 

On most times, I can see that the slow truck going snail slow while there are a long trail of vehicles behind it and clear path to the next vehicle in front, up to 3-4 lamp post.

 

In the 80s, this wasnt the problem and most trucks would automatically keep left.

 

Any good constructive comments are welcome to improve the OVERALL speed of our expressways. I feel that even if the lanes are increased to 10, with the trucks going from Lane 2 to 10, it would be the same problem.

You haven't seen the 3m long pick up trucks on the 1st lanes before on the 4 lane expressway, albeit going at 100km/h. [rolleyes]

If people wonder why more and more trucks hog the 1st lane nowadays... look no further than this... poor fella trying to exit to Clementi and all the kiasu only accelerating to cut him off...

especially the Golf and that taxi in the end... he was happy behind me for a few hundred meters but decided that no way he is going to be stuck behind the truck when he saw his indicator.

 

People... if you don't want to be behind a truck... please check your rear view mirror... if there's a line of cars behind you... than do have the courtesy to let the big truck go... if there's no one behind you... accelerate safely and pass him... at least than... he has a chance to change lanes.

I was driving home one day on PIE lane 2 when this mid sized lorry (those open top back) carrying workers behind.. was speeding 100km+ on lane 1, zig zag in and out.. flashing light onto other cars on lane 1 even though traffic was moderate and no hogging involved.

 

What's wrong with these people ah..

Nowadays is common for lorry hogging the right lane. I met 2 hoggers in 1 day

Where got hogging on surface road (non expressway)? 

I used to drive vans on my previous jobs, the Pi pi sound is still around inside the cabin, there are ways to temper  tamper with it anyway.

Where did I say that? 

 

Let me give you a very simple analogy 

 

Let's say somebody takes an upskirt photo of your wife / daughter / girlfriend

Then you murder him. 

 

I say "murder is wrong" and prosecute you

Then you say - oh, so taking upskirt photo is ok with you? 

 

No it isn't - but murder is out of proportion to the offense. 

And what was done in this case is out of proportion to the original offence, and far more dangerous
