Hello all,

I bought a 2nd hand Chevrolet optra, mileage 70k, even if the dealer said timing belt had changed, but he couldn't provide the servicing record for this changes, to be safe i intend to do the servicing and change the timing belt, can anyone recommand an good WS for the servicing?

I am surfing Chevrolet club, some members recommanded RDY in AMK, some recommanded Alpine Centre, but some members got very bad experience as

bad experience with RDY

Please give advice [:)]

You might wish to check with alphine motors on the servicing history of the car and to determine if timing belt has been changed, and in the same time ask for price quote from Alpine and that from RDY for comparison. Guess the way to find out the quality of service and how reasonable prices are is to try, as opinions vary among car owners. Given the mileage, time to give due attention to timing belt, as overhaul cost can be quite hefty if it give way.

Hope this is not an unreasonable comment:

My experiences with them have been good. They usually also quite kiasu in terms of recommending the replacement of wear and tear items (which can be a good thing). However, this increases the price per servicing, so the owner will spend slightly more than if you were to do a simple oil change in other outside ws, but overall still cheaper than alpine.

So for basic servicing, they are a reasonable choice. They are an even better choice if you consider the fact that they handle Chevys everyday, so they are definitely familiar. Service is also reasonably good.

The bad part, based on the complaints I ever read, are mostly when the cars got "deeper" problems. Once the car has a problem that goes beyond normal repair by a simple change of the faulty part. They may not be able to diagnose it well, want to spend the time to fix it or think that it is their problem. The owner will then be asked to go back to Alpine.

This is where some owners may feel that they are a tad irresponsible.. but perhaps its just a management of expectations.
