Altivo 3rd Gear August 29, 2012 Share August 29, 2012 Need some help here. I'm on SH maxonline and is using Motorola SBV5121i voice modem and Linksys WRT54G router. All was working fine until last evening when my internet connection became very very very slow. Then there after, i couldn't access the internet on my iphone (WIFI) and laptop. I checked the LEDs on the modem and all the required LEDs are lit. I'm not an expert but I would expect the DS and DR LEDs to blink when i'm surfing web right? When I tried to a webpage, the DS and DR LEDs were lit but not blinking. However, the LINK LED is blinking. Does that mean the router is working but the modem is spoilt? Or is it the other way round? Any bros can help? ↡ Advertisement

Any bros can help? Sometimes its a one off issue. Try turning off both router and modem, Unplug and replug all cables, turn them on and try again. If power cycling both devices doesn't work, do what our other bro suggested. connect the modem direct to your laptop and see if it works. If it does, then its a router issue. Try doing a factory reset and setup the router again. http://technicallyeasy.net/2009/02/how-to-...ireless-router/ If it doesn't then its a modem issue so call starhub's customer service and they'll walk you through doing some stuff while they refresh the signal on their end. P.S. I'm using the same modem. Only the "link" (orange LED) blinks when in use, or the "tel 1/2" blinks when I'm using the phone. If anything else blinks, then it's having a problem with that aspect of the connection. I've had issues before and had to change the modem. If you need to change it, I suggest the modem-router combo that starhub has. It makes things far easier with only one device. Iceman81 4th Gear August 29, 2012 Share August 29, 2012 As what Elfenstar had said, the modem DS and US light will be stable once the modem is online, only the link/data orange/green LED will be blinking when there is traffic going thru the modem. You can try so isolate the prob to see which one is giving you the issue. 1. Restart your laptop and see if can connect to internet. 2. If still cannot, power on/off your router and try again. If after restart router you can connect, then the router might be the problem. 3. If still cannot connect, power on/off your modem follow by your router, then ur pc. If can connect, it might be the modem or starhub connection issue. 4. If after all those still cannot, most likely is the line, else worst case both ur modem and router have issue. Hope it helps. :)
Altivo 3rd Gear August 29, 2012 Author Share August 29, 2012 Thanks all. I connected my laptop directly to the modem and YES, i can access internet. So can i safely conclude that it is a router problem?

Elfenstar 3rd Gear August 29, 2012 Share August 29, 2012 I have this problem also, wirelss got problem, direct connection no problem. Change a new wireless router, also same. This is an on and off thingy. Anyone can explain? What was your old router, and what is your new? Some routers are known to be cranky. Also where is your router placed? Does it get uncomfortably warm to touch under use? If yes, then it may be the problem, so try relocating it to somewhere where it can remain cool for longer. Alternatively, just unplug and replug all cables, then reset to factory settings, and reconfigure your router and see if it helps.
Jamstart 1st Gear August 30, 2012 Share August 30, 2012 (edited) My old wireless router is SMC and new one is D-link and it is placed on top of my TV and I doubt the router is hot. I also tried power off both modem and router but result still the same. Ironically, my broadband network provider came knock at my door after it happened. Telling me my block and cable are old and will face problem with intermetten connection (I was asking myself, how he know?). Then follow by, he recommended me to upgrade to fibre and will not have this problem. So i felt something was fishy. Wonder did they use this wirelss jammer device to jam the signal and cause the disruption. There was a time, almost a week, that i have this problem. Now, the problem is not so bad but just a little slow. Edited August 30, 2012 by Jamstart

It's rare, but sometimes interference can be an issue. ↡ Advertisement
