Tjkbeluga 5th Gear August 24, 2012 Share August 24, 2012 Considering absolutely no insurance, no tuition, everything bare minimum food only should be OK. But pray that there is no hiccup like health issue or accident.

Damienic 5th Gear August 24, 2012 Share August 24, 2012 This kind of article sometimes does make people ponder a lot. I got a friend whose been working for the last 15 years and her take home pay is about $2000 monthly after CPF deduction. She is single with no committment required for family. Strangely, she always lament 2k per month take home is causing her financial hardships and quite often she has to borrow in sums of $50-100 from friends about 5-7 days before her pay day to tide over that period where she has no savings from the bank to withdraw from until her pay gets credited. She doesn't buy branded stuff, don't drive and doesn't have much nightlife and yet she seems always barely surviving with that pay. Although she does incur a regualr medical expense of about $200 per month on avg but that is just 10% of her take home and shoudn't be causing her hardships. Always wonder why esp when one see an article that a person earning 1.8k after take home can bring up a family of 8 but for her case, 2K is not even sufficient for herself. We always talk about this and I help her to analyse and from the breakdowns it appears there should be enough for her to live fairly ok but somehow the situation is always the opposite. Greggywong Neutral Newbie August 24, 2012 Share August 24, 2012 Depends what kind of quality of life you want. Whether you want: - eat at Hawker Centre or Restaurant on weekends - Insurance for kids - Hand me down clothes or brand new clothes - Able to go to Garden by the Bay or Botanical gardens - PAP kindergarten or private child care For me, I prefer to have a better quality of life But there are some people whose salary is on the low side but still enjoy their life throughly and they live life happier than those who earn alot but worry about every single thing. Carnoob Supercharged August 24, 2012 Share August 24, 2012 Aiyo the report doesn't makes sense... Question number 1: If they are so good at savings, example using less water, no aircon etc then how come they are spending $300 for water/electricity bills? Question number 2: Given $500 transport allowances and no transport cost? Question number 3: No school fees? No need uniforms, shoes, school bags, school books etc? Altivo 3rd Gear August 24, 2012 Share August 24, 2012 I believe this article has a political underlining to it. It's pretty obvious. Having said that, I would say it is rather poor family planning by the parents. The dad has 7 dependents (wife included) on him. Should mishap falls on him, the family will be in deep financial problem. Lastly, I'm very upset cos he didn't use durex.

Angchug 3rd Gear August 24, 2012 Share August 24, 2012 did they live on any payout? 1.8k....hard to believe. the baby dont need milk powder/diaper etc? It's possible I had gone through that path for few years with 3 kids living on $1,200 per year. Might sound crazy but is manageable. All depends on how you want to manage your life. Angchug 3rd Gear August 24, 2012 Share August 24, 2012 did they live on any payout? 1.8k....hard to believe. the baby dont need milk powder/diaper etc? You need to know the trick and dare to seek help. I got two years of milk powder for free. All clinic are given free sample of milk powder, some even in big can for new mothers to try. I managed to collect total of 58 cans (big can) across sg. There are places where you can seek help. I gone through it. ↡ Advertisement
