Coolbluewater 2nd Gear August 20, 2012 Share August 20, 2012 My mobile phone of 2 years is started to give problems (extremely short battery life, home button doesn't work, always hang screen etc). It's probably time to get a new mobile. I have come across 2 mobiles, LG Optimus 4X HD or Samsung Galaxy SIII based on functionality and specs. Though the pricing and battery life is much more attractive than SIII, but still very undecided between the two as I have never used a LG phone before. Any comment? ↡ Advertisement

The LG is definitely more worth the money. Both of them are from korea. They probably share some parts. Besides both of them are running on android. The LG is marginally slower than the Galaxy S3 based on the benchmark tests. Seriously what exactly do you do on the phone that requires lots of processing power? Perhaps you should go down to anyone of the mobile shops to try out the phone for yourself.

Apart from using it for calling, I do use the phone for work as well through some app developed by my co. On top of that, social networking like facebooking. So pretty much a heavy user. Will pop by one of the mobile shop to try the phone though I do read some bad comment on their battery life because of nvidia which they put to enhance the screen resolution. Well if you don't mind paying extra, then by all means. I'm a pretty simple user. I use it mainly to text, call, whatsapp, youtube, some lame games like coin dozer occasionally but that's about it/

Gobbler Clutched August 20, 2012 Share August 20, 2012 For $250 difference, i will go for LG. Got radio function also.
Alpha78 6th Gear August 20, 2012 Share August 20, 2012 For $250 difference, i will go for LG. Got radio function also. S3 has radio too. Price vs performance, if you are not that fussy, LG seems to be good value for money. I'm using S3, and just read some reviews for the LG 4X HD, and I'm recommending my dad to get this, for he's not a techie user. For that much cheaper, the LG is not shabby. Ruriimasu 1st Gear August 20, 2012 Share August 20, 2012 but seriously. other than play games, what will you do on the phone which will require quad core?
Tarquin 1st Gear August 20, 2012 Share August 20, 2012 Same here...currently using optimus 2X and hated the phone...after a year a lot of hiccups even custom roms and "rooting" really CMI...and it's true the aftermarket LG support in terms of SW updates is really slow... Was considering to change since using high plan (company subsidized phone bill ) and was looking into both the LG 4X and S3...my wife is using Samsung Note so quite impressed by the phone but wanted to try other models so keeping the upgrade thing aside..as once bitten by LG now a bit not that enthusiastic even by reading good reviews about the 4X..but price wise quite value for the money though... Happily1986 5th Gear August 20, 2012 Share August 20, 2012 but seriously. other than play games, what will you do on the phone which will require quad core? Many people don't realise this. Quadcore Soc which come after dualcore or single SoC, are manufactured on smaller technological node process e.g. 28nm compared to say 40nm or even 60nm previously. When you move to a smaller node, voltage consumption drops which means better battery savings. That's no. 1. No. 2, given that you set the CPU governor and I/O scheduler to be the same across the board, everytime the CPU is instructed to scale up and down, the throttling effect kicks in faster and delivers a more potent boost (especially when scaling up). Also, the way how scaling works by getting the controller to hunt for the optimal frequency as found in the clock frequency table. Because multi-core processors have more cores than say a single core, the optimal frequency is much lower. 4 cores working at 500Mhz consumes less battery all in all as compared to 2 cores clocked at 800Mhz each. Lastly, most if not all phones have kernels which supports hot plug mode. This mode enables cores not in use to be turned off and turned on again on the fly. In fact, the Tegra 3 by design contains a slave core which is slower than the main processing core. The idea is to save power by transferring idle control to the less able but more frugal slave core while switching off the main core whenever possible. Kopites Supersonic August 20, 2012 Share August 20, 2012 How about nexus ? Should be value for money but the downside phone do not support chinese language. Some bros suggested to download the chinese input app. I being a nut in IT probably can't find my way around to download the app.
