Oblong 3rd Gear August 16, 2012 Share August 16, 2012 and Singapore is the richest in the world? Something is very wrong and i don't know which. But I do appreciate the nice thought/gesture of preserving the dignity by thread starter. Thanks for such chicken soup story, I like it, especially when TS also mentioned the PRC. Kindness transcends borders. We do have that kumpong spirit two, three decades ago, but rentals are not that high then, too.
Qpik Supercharged August 16, 2012 Author Share August 16, 2012 I will buy one set meal each for them.... Uncle, yesterday from AMK to TTSH, I encountered old folks selling tissue paper and blind basking. So, given the resources that I had left, I did what I can. Steptronic Supercharged August 16, 2012 Share August 16, 2012 Very good act. In fact chances like this is very less and most of the time we do not observe the sorroundings. I try to offer some cold drinks or small notes to the uncles in petrol pump. The regular ones accept happily. But the new or temporary ones hesitate and quickly move away from me! Watwheels Supersonic August 16, 2012 Share August 16, 2012 (edited) This reminds me of the kind dancer lady who cook food to distribute to old folks. I'm sure she did it for a reason like what Qpik saw and most likely she saw a lot of them doing the same. I dunno why ppl would criticise her act of kindness and say her food pose some kind of health hazard. Anyway not only in sg we are seeing this. I read that in Japan a lot of old folks has no place to stay and sleep in mrt stations and their lunch depend on offerings(bento) given/bought by office workers. They even give free sex to beggers... Haha.... Dunno if it's a hoax or not.... There are quite a lot of people living near some of the major train station. Some are so severe that they had to design the floor with lots of slanted seat so that there is no place for them to lay mattress or paper cartons on the floor. [:p] iirc, one of the forummer here through his church do buy foodstuff and distribute to those needy. i think this way more transparent. no matter how credible a charity is, they still have to incur administrative cost. so how much the needy receive at the end of the day is still ???
