Perseids Meteor Showers August 2012.

I am just wondering if anyone is gonna watch this year Perseids Showers?

And where's the best place to watch it? East Coast?

Or it will rain and visible at every part of the country?

Quite difficult because of the pollution in Singapore.

I remember I watched it at Sentosa in 1998. Not good at all. Best is venture to Malaysia if its visible there.

The Perseids are usually a wash (pun intended) with the overcast conditions around this time of year. I've had better luck with the Leonids (Nov) and the best luck with the Geminids (Dec) before. But even then, it's spotty, with only a few bright meteors because of the limiting magnitude of our skies.

 

It doesn't matter where you view from, as long as the skies are dark and not clouded over. But you need to wait for the right time so that the radiant (the point from which the meteors appear to be emerging) has risen to a reasonable altitude in the sky. Check a star chart to see when the constellation Perseus is high in the sky and roughly where it is. During a shower, meteors can appear all over the sky, but given our crappy viewing conditions, it's best to look close to the radiant, I've found.

 

The most interesting thing I saw in our skies is a fireball a few years back. It was a sporadic meteor, not part of a shower. Got featured in the news, too.

Me leaving on 9th 5am... With 3 other cars, bringing 12kids to Ipoh Lost World Theme Park... For adults will be like makan & catching up... Back on 11th Sat.

Hm,. I tried East Coast Park though.

Sky was rather okay, just a little cloudy, but zero sightings.

Maybe the Meteors saw you at east coast....half way u-turned back.So didn't pass Singapore.

Should have tried Mt Faber, can see few shooting stars at around 2.00 ~ 3.45 am....
