It's the legacy that's important. A man can't be forever, but the legacy does.

We are all here as diverse as we are. Be it financially, socially, academically, politically or even physically. But this is a place many of us call home.

Let's put away the differences, celebrate the founding of our country for 47 years.

I second that! [nod]

Precisely. If it's a true born Singaporean winning it as in the case 50 years ago, then it's something worth celebrating. The more medals these ATs win just shows the world where majority of these people originate from. Might as well tell SSC to buy a football team and we make history in world cup.

NDP is the same old boring theme year after year.

Even the songs can't beat those of the 80s.

Importing Olympic athletes isn't going to fool anybody

same sentiments in the UK also..already back 2008

  Quote
At times, and in some sports, we have been that kind of country. But more often, and certainly now, we aren't. Have we invested enough to get city kids, black or white, Asian or Polish, into swimming pools, cricket nets or athletics clubs? Have we been selling off school sports fields or expanding them? Do we give the support we should to the professional and voluntary coaches, trainers and organisers who keep sport happening? I don't need to go on. We all know the answers.

To come in late in the day with imported talent and claim they are British success stories isn't about being open to migrants. It's just cheating. Nobody watching will be fooled. If they get medals, we'll feel a little embarrassed. Whether it's swimming or anything else, let's have a sporting culture strong enough for us to know, when we win, that it's a real, homegrown achievement, not a fiddle. Otherwise, frankly, I'd rather we lost.

There are 101 rumours flying around periodically, but all it needs is just 1 fine day for one to be true.

Based on his age and the recent passing of his siblings, the clock is already ticking.

The only question is when.

MAy be true...its said one doesnt live long after one's partner departed, usually within next three years.

Probably the rest and other souls are recalling him down to join them.

He seldom make much public appearances nowadays, so it's possible that he has some health problems.

Is he still going for his regular jogs and exercises? All these will point to something.

Anyway, why was he placed as an MP for TP when he ain't even physically fit to represent them?

Are his kar kias representing him at the meet the people's sessions?

i think sometimes, msm idolising a media darling through the last few decades made an impact on our independent thinking ability in the political front. The education system de-emphasising on humanities subjects in general (for the last decade) helped too.

Of course, there could be some other (utilitarian) reasons behind the decision.

Although I have heard philosophy subject was taught in some GEP and Raffles secondaries for the past few years.

Introducing liberal arts to college, at least the inception, was a good move.
