Thank you. Lots of hardware shops at Jln Beasar. They are not the usual neighbourhood type. The things they sell are for marine and various industries. You definitely can find them there if you have the sample or know the size and length of the bolts and nuts (in mm or inches). Get those marine grade stainless steel type. Definitely won't rust. Watwheels Supersonic August 6, 2012 Share August 6, 2012 I am looking for hardened/heat-treated bolt and nut (black color) to replace my exhaust parts, wondering if anyone know which shop selling variety of this kinds of bolts and nuts ? Thank you. I suggest you bring a sample of the bolt & nut along with you coz when shops what size & type of thread, length of thread you are looking you will be tongue tied. Type of "heads" for bolts there are a lot. Most common are hexagonal heads, there are also hex. socket type, the "+/-", countersunk head or round head. Black colour is not heat treated. The process is called "blackening" to retard the process of rust. Most steel bolts come "blackened", so you dun have to mentioned anything when buying, just say normal steel type. It's actually a layer of aluminium oxide. Much like those galvanised but using zinc as a layer of coating. Stainless steel bolts comes in 2 grades SUS304 & SUS316 the difference is not in strength but in their chemical composition. SUS316 has a higher resistance against chemicals & against corrosion. "8.8" grade got to see what size smaller ones are actually carbon steel, slightly stronger dan normal steel as it has more carbon content. Bigger sizes are high tensile steel. Thread size comes in a number of different standard; mm, inches & unified threads. mm alone got 2 types, coarse thread & fine thread. Inches are a little more complicated as it looks at pitch size. Unified are usually fine threads or fine pitch as in threads are closer to each other dan regular threads. Buying bolts has a lot knowledge as sellers will be specific and ask what exactly you are looking for. Hence it's good to bring along a sample. Octopus 3rd Gear August 29, 2012 Share August 29, 2012 Stainless steel bolts & nuts are good for corrosion resistant, but known to be easily seized if not used properly. I would go with the high tensile bolts & nuts. ↡ Advertisement
