Normal in-car dvr screen are usually only 2.5", not good candidate for use as rearview parking camera leh. Cannot see clearly. BoneStock 5th Gear February 21, 2017 Share February 21, 2017 Goes to a cig plug or battery or power magic pro device. Thanks bro. The red/black cable is only about 1m long...meaning I have find a permanent power source near the rear windscreen where the rear cam is mounted. Any power source suitable for tapping here? The normal tail light, reverse light and signal are all not on all the time. Also the box says 5V dc but the power cables in the car are all 12V right ?

I just charged the cam using USB to my computer. It was totally flat just now. Realised that the rear cam works even the red/black cable is left unconnected. Guess the rear cam must be drawing power from the front cam. The red/black cable is redundant then
Beng2 5th Gear February 22, 2017 Share February 22, 2017 thanks bro. I just charged the cam using USB to my computer. It was totally flat just now. Realised that the rear cam works even the red/black cable is left unconnected. Guess the rear cam must be drawing power from the front cam. The red/black cable is redundant then The red/black should be power cables (red = positive, black = ground). They are not redundant, unless you intend to keep using the built-in battery in the camera. Since you charge the cam using USB from your computer, it should be requiring 5V for normal operations. Your options: 1. Getting a 5V ciggy lighter plug and join the wires. You then plug the ciggy lighter plug into your car ciggy lighter socket 2. Hardwire it to your fuse box. As you pointed out, you need to use a 12V to 5V converter with built in fuse tap (google this). You connect the red cable to the fuse tap, and black cable to ground. No wire splicing is required to be performed on your car if you use a fuse tap. So when reverse, the rear cam will turn on. it's different, cos mine is a blackbox cam, so it needs power all the time whenever I am driving. for reverse cam, it only needs power when the car is reversing. ↡ Advertisement
