Parliament Got Good medicine in their water

Given that Singaporeans are being exhorted to have more babies, I was curious how many children can be attributed to our leaders.

I found out that Singapore's parliament is pretty fertile - from the info I have to hand there are 2.01 children per parliamentarian. That's 199 in all.

Well done folks :-)

I also found out that 89 of the 99 MPs are married (counting widowers),

And of those that list their religion

24 are Christian,

10 are Catholic / Roman Catholic

6 are Free Thinkers

12 Follow Islam,

8 are Buddhist

1 Taoist

1 Hindu.

1 "Chinese folk"

The remaining 34 are not specified (if they follow a religion at all)

Note: I compiled the info from gov.sg by looking at the individual MP Curriculum Vitae - I hope that I haven't made any transcription or counting errors. If I have, I very sincerely apologise.

Don't know why you have to point out religion because one group is severely over represented while the majority group is greatly under represented. [lipsrsealed]

TGIF ... really no mood for heavy discussions

It's not their water. It's more that they are not representative of a typical singaporean. One even thought that mee siam comes with hum...They don't share the same problems or have minimal impact from problems faced by us, e.g. high inflation, high property, enrolling into choice primary school, medical cost..etc.

What's wrong with it? I went to see how many were married, and how many kids there were - a lot of the CV also listed religion, so I made a note of it...

I was also surprised to see the numbers - but then, who really cares?

I care but then I don't consider myself the typical "Sinkee"

You are a smart guy so I am sure you also know the implications.

No need for me to say further about the socio-economical can of worms it can open.

Bad climate for it anyway.

I know exactly where you are coming from - I was very surprised to see the compilation myself. It does seem to be a bit out of whack with the general population - would also be interesting to do it by party.

It would be interesting to have somebody more knowledgeable than me at stats and anthropology look at the distribution and see if it is

a) just an aberration / within normal expected range

b) there is a systemic bias at play that needs to be thought about

No wonder when the majority group make certain comments and remarks against the minor one, they can get away scot free..
