no fixing? sure or not!!!

1. last 2 matches are played at the same time. how you know no fixing? the team manager keep posted real time on the other match result. if threat is eliminated, he quickly change out all key player to rest, to avoid injury, to avoid red card, etc. then, play 1/2 effort just to have a draw ... no heart to win.

2. if already confirm advance to next level, they will preserve all key player and put in the reserve as 1st line up. so?

in badminton for case 2, they cannot put in reserve, so play keke to conserve energy for next match

got lah. in 2002, italy against dont know who. when both are 1-1 and both know they win liao cause other side loss. they refuse to move and ref force to close the match at 87min.

Chinese player quits badminton after Olympic match-fixing disqualification

Yu Yang, one of eight competitors who deliberately played to lose, makes announcement as Beijing orders public apology

The Chinese Olympic badminton doubles champion Yu Yang has announced she is quitting the sport, hours after being disqualified from the Olympics for deliberately throwing a match. Beijing, meanwhile, has ordered its badminton team to apologise for the fiasco.

"This is my last competition. Goodbye Badminton World Federation, goodbye my beloved badminton," the 26-year-old wrote on the country's Weibo microblogging service.

Her message came shortly after state news agency Xinhua announced that Chinese officials had ordered Yu, her partner Wang Xiaoli and the head of their Olympic badminton team to publicly apologise.

Yu and her teammate Wang Xiaoli were disqualified by badminton's governing body on Wednesday along with two South Korean pairs and an Indonesian duo for "conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport".

The round-robin arrangements gave players an interest in losing so that they could face easier contests at the elimination stage. But spectators booed them off the court, enraged by the farcical matches in which players deliberately served into the net, hit shots wide or missed easy returns.

Such a pity quiting only at age of 26

aiya, next time just faked stomach-ache, too weak to play that match, concede walk-over... make the spectators even more pissed, hahaha...

farcical "self-righteousness"... then the organisers should disqualify the whole GB soccer team too, cos their spectators booed the hell out of Suarez, and separately nothing was done on the John Terry and Rio Ferdinand's incidents...

old time hero

lucky not my idol zhao jian hua [laugh] [laugh]

His skin is thick enough to quote this:

"Li Yongbo, chief coach of the Chinese badminton team, said the poor behaviour of his players reflected the shortcomings of the new regulations in the sport.

"I feel that no matter whether it is the rules or something else, that's no excuse," said Li. "The key point is we did not behave professionally as athletes and did not treat each match seriously.

"We didn't strive with all our might in the Olympic way. From that point of view we really didn't grasp this point thoroughly ... as chief coach I really feel I must say sorry to fans and viewers nationwide," Li told Xinhua.

He only offers apology to China but not the whole world. And looks like he is not ready to step down.

aiya ... every sport is like that la

like F1 ... team-mate must give way for higher chances team-mate to secure more points

F1 ban team-order and then LL also lifted up team-order ... now team manager can shout loud loud ...

you the who ... give way ... good boy

every single sport got "fixing" la

in view of this badminton saga ... another experienced guy also commented that how china 'fix' their ranking like send who (single) team (double) to which country to play and to aim what medal at what time. this is how they control/manage their single / double world ranking in sport including badminton, table tennis, etc

don't be naive ... okie

The players got exactly what they deserved. Very very happy to see them disqualified, and I hope they feel shame for a long long time because of it.

To expand a little, (quoting wiki)

The Olympic creed is

The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well

Do you feel that these players were in line with the "Olympic Creed"? Remember also that the ideal of the Olympics is as an amateur sport - not a professional, winning is everything.

It is disgraceful to see people deliberately losing, and I am pleased that there is enough strength in the governing body to discipline them.
