Anyone know whats wrong? My car's aircon is now blowing hot air.

Had an inkling that this happened when I went over a pot hole or I fiddled with the thermostat.

Car is a Civic 1.8.

Also, can recommend a good aircon workshop?

Thanks in advance!

Possible issues:-

- air compressor coil spoilt (Change around S$ 200/- pc; no need to change compressor)

- discharge pipe leak @ S$ 80/-

- condenser leakage or choked @ S$ 60 to S$ 250/-

- cooling coil coil choked @ S$ 280 to S$ 350/-

- cooling coil expansion valve spoilt @ S$ 40-

- thermostat defective @ S$ 30/-

Unlikely radiator cooling fan motor spoilt unless not working (Turning)

I hope selector is not at heater.

Most likely compressor failed to cut-in.

Please be around and follow when mechanic check for problems. It may be a loose connector at thermostat in you case.

or maybe other genuine problem.

But if you leave car alone with workshop, and wait for their call, it will definately be paying for at lease a compressor.

It's my regular WS since 1993 and now my company van & truck also service by Paul too. (The owner and he's always hands-on with his 2 staffs)

Quite trustful and he serviced fleet of vehicles for:-

- Nera Communications

- Lee Wee Nasi Lemak

- All Link 21

- Clean Solutions etc

As mentioned, i with Paul since 1993 and he's price quite reasonable and around the mentioned range unless conti-cars then maybe higher and Paul will use Original parts not counter-fit unless owner preference.

it is likely to be the magnetic clutch of the compressor kaput, it happen to me before(my previous ride is a 08 civicfd), if you can find a good aircon WS, they will probably repair for you, cost not more than $250, but more likely most WS will ask you to change the whole compressor...cost not more than $650.

last 2 days the problem got worse.it went from aircon blowing just hot air to engine became noisy to smoke coming out from bonnet [sweatdrop]

so managed to go in JB and had it fixed.....total damage RM900 - parked overnite at my JB home to let car rest first before heading to WS this morning.

yup, true enough, the compressor gave way.Singapore workshops quoted me SGD800 plus for compressor alone and labour.

changed the aircon compressor and fan - seriously didnt know compressor kaput can cause my bonnet to spew smoke. scared shitless thought car gonna catch fire.

lucky I didn't do it here in SGP...... [knife]

thanks all for the leads and info!!! car is definitely ok now......cheers!

Gotten a seized compressor?

Glad to hear that your problem is resolved.

For BB cars, aircon job is definitely cheaper

Was it a locally made compressor,, by Denso, sanden, or ACM?
