Antzng 1st Gear May 10, 2014 Share May 10, 2014 (edited) Have u tried recently? There are no longer available. It is still available but it does not give you free shipping even the total is more than US$125. Seems like system problem because the search engine indicates it as AmazonGlobal Eligible. I added 12 qt of the 10w30 into my cart and I am still able to get free shipping to Singapore. Why don't give the Mobil 1 Green Cap a try. It is slightly cheaper than the Castrol now. Yuan 6th Gear May 10, 2014 Share May 10, 2014 So you used it twice then. First time and last time. And that was enough for me. in our local context, we should only look at the W40 or W30 right? the first number, not applicable ? I ran a W50 before and that was for the tracks. Baal Supersonic May 10, 2014 Share May 10, 2014 I just tried Synergy ECO+ 5w 40. Feels more free revving compared to the previous Agip & OWS 10-40 I used previously. However, the 5-40 seem makes the plastics in my car rattle a little here & there. Theres also noticeble loss of torque. Between 10-40 & 5-40 or 0-40, though the 1st fig is only applicable for cold regions, does it cause the average Visc of the oil to be different in Sg's climate?

Karbonphyber 1st Gear May 12, 2014 Share May 12, 2014 Thanks for the tip. no dramas. finding the right grade of oil will be easier if you have oil pressure and oil temperature gauges. i dare say 99% of the users of gauges don't really know what the other half of the purpose of having the gauge is. Baal Supersonic June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/591354-5w40-versus-10w40/I came accross the above link which is actually for 4 stroke scramblers. As prev mentioned, I noted that when changing from 10-40 to 5-40, I found that with 5-40, there was slight loss of torque, more vibes. For my Car. The above experience also happened years ago, when I was riding a 400cc IL4 bike. However, many bros here mentioned that as Sg's temp never drops <20 C, the W does not matter, only the rear rating 30/40/50 is relevant. If so, how come I experience the above for both my bike & car? Seems that for less vibes, smoother feel and more protection, 10-40 or 15-40 could be a better choice in view that my older Gen Korean has a "rougher" less refined engine. Examples : In the link (forum), it was agreed that : Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the 10W has a heavier base oil than the 5 and viscosity improvers are used to get the 40 rating when hot. Thus for high temp performance and longevity of the oil it is better to use the 10W. Correct ================================================== Also Dean Tanaka said I'm starting to understand this a bit more at the technical level...5w is a thinner base stock than the 10w,At 212*F regardless of the W rating, the 40 means that it is no thinner than straight 40 weight oil the same temp...A 5W oil (organic) requires 2X the number of Viscosity Index Improvers than 10W, so twice as much VII (which are not lubricants) are required in 5W 40 than 10W 40. It is the VII's that break down due to shearing forces like transmissions in a bike so it's not that the oil is less viscous at 212*F... the 5w high rating will break down twice as fast as the 10w... unless you go with synthetic which doesn't need near as much in the way of VII's. Without VII's to break down a 5W 40 synthetic should be much better than 10W 40 organic at 212*F.Even though the oils are rated the same at the high temp... I suppose that doesn't mean they will behave the same at any other point of the scale either. Correct, though what Ive been telling you from the start will hold true in any Syn vs syn or org vs org comparison. I know honda has a scale as to which oil to use at what temp so figuring which one is best for you should be easy. Generally the hotter the temps the heavier oil you will use. ===================================================================Even better, run a deisel oil. It's 15W40.Seems to me the less you have to rely on the VII's the better.Went riding out in the Mojave on Wednesday. It was probably 90 before we even started the bikes. I would have preferred running straight 40 weight oil. ↡ Advertisement
