Sabian Turbocharged July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 Correct me if I am wrong. I thought high mileage such as 80k or 100k requires thicker EO such as W40 for protection. Though some bros and myself used to use W30 grade even though our mileage is high (over 100k). Popular myth partly bec it perpetuated by workshops since they always carry 5w40 oil and it's a 1 "size" fits all.
Jamesc Hypersonic July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 Korrect We say other's wifey good Others say our wifey good Hahahaha I liked the idea of wife swapping until my neighbour told me I couldn't keep his wife and had to take my own wife back. When I heard that I just lost interest.
Popok 1st Gear July 24, 2012 Share July 24, 2012 European Formula like GC 0w30 are designed for some of the worst driving condition ever (aka autobahn with >200km/hr) with super long oil drain interval required in Europe. Why GC 0w30 have such a cult following is because it protect the engine like a w40 oil with the FC of a thick w30, best of both world. protection + FC Purchased 0w30 bottled today frm mx..changed out previous 7.7k. Ows multilight..whole evening of driving, feels smoother & not as noisy. Is it real or juz butt feeling.. Ride is swift sport at 128k km..
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear July 31, 2012 Share July 31, 2012 Correct me if I am wrong. I thought high mileage such as 80k or 100k requires thicker EO such as W40 for protection. Though some bros and myself used to use W30 grade even though our mileage is high (over 100k). i don't think 80k or even 100k mileage is considered 'high'.... you have to see that mileage in terms of age of the car too... 80k in a 10 year old car isn't high at all... besides, maintenance, i feel is more important than absolute mileage count... i'm using W30 oil in my car too, engine feels eager to rev, and no blow by problems or leaks at all. i just did my 80k service, and the car feels fantastic, esp with new spark plugs! 80k engine when properly maintained and run in, is probably giving more power now than when it was new... hahah my vote goes to german castrol! Kb27 Supersonic December 27, 2013 Share December 27, 2013 My experience with 5w40 CL in my getz is that I feel it has sheared down from 40wt to 30wt at about 7k km. Although it's not scientific testing, that's my butt feeling. Compared to Mobil 1 5w30 I have been using previously, the feeling of a sudden change in engine performance when using CL at about 7k km makes me think that. I also read a couple of UOA reports in BITOG that CL sheared down. Subsequently, I stopped using CL. For a little more money, nowadays, I can get much better oil from Amazon. But that's my preference.
