Ahtong 1st Gear July 18, 2012 Author Share July 18, 2012 The Ministry of Manpower has issued findings of preliminary investigations into the Downtown Line's Bugis MRT site accident on Wednesday morning that left two workers dead and eight others injured. The MOM said workers were pouring wet concrete into a mould - believed to be for the roof of a linkway joining the new station to the existing Bugis station - when the structure supporting the mould collapsed. The MOM said the accident happened about 4m beneath the surface. The Ministry confirmed that the project is a joint venture France's Soletanche Bachy and Singapore's Koh Brothers. Kingcopa 1st Gear July 18, 2012 Share July 18, 2012 Like i said... the PE most likely will be safe unless his design is not adequate.... For the formwork supervisor... he will need to prove he have discharge his duties as stated in the regulation.....
Ender Hypersonic July 18, 2012 Share July 18, 2012 (edited) That's why i never consider taking PE cert. Good money (hourly rate for experienced PE is a few hundred bucks/hour), but when s--t happens due to your oversight, that's it.. According to this case, the PE may not be liable if his endorsement failed. So go ahead and take the PE cert. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_773835.html http://thecourtroom.stomp.com.sg/stomp/cou...or_damages.html Edited July 18, 2012 by Ender

Even if the scaffolding doesnt collapes, there are still risk of workers getting burried alive down there right???? anyone from construction industry can explain why is there such practice????? Hachi 3rd Gear July 18, 2012 Share July 18, 2012 Get all facts correct. Construction of MRT lines and stations are LTA responsibilities. SMRT and SBS Transit are only the operators.... Meaning during construction stage, SMRT and SBS Transit can only kay po here and kay po there. They have no authority to change or direct anything. Finally someone saying sane statements..... Bystander50 5th Gear July 18, 2012 Share July 18, 2012 Boils down to the scaffold structure integrity (Scaffolding manufacturer) and work safety (Construction company). Either one will tio form this incident, [rifle] Might as well blame earth tremors, vibrated and shifted the scafolding, causing it to collapse. I didn't keep track of the statistics, probably only the NE line is the only one that is free of consruction fatality. Circle line also got 1 major one at Nicoll Highway. Honest mistake, let's move on.
Sosaria Twincharged July 18, 2012 Share July 18, 2012 ... Honest mistake, let's move on. "Honest mistake" is sooo old-fashioned statement already. Heard over the radio news, this new phrase - mark my words, will be the "in" thing soon - the public need not worry because this is "isolated incident". Liping24cn Clutched July 18, 2012 Share July 18, 2012 Maybe the workers were pouring the cements for the rrof slabs and the scaffolding cannot take the load. Someone could have underestimated the wet cement weight before its dry! The wet weight is acting fully on the scaffolding support. But when the cement is dried, the weight will be taken up by the rebars and other vertical columns. The mistake in loading between wet and fully cured is totally different. One good thing is that the design factor for the bugis mrt roof may in next designs review be revise to be very strong and over design! It always takes a disaster to make everyone wakes up. Will there wpbe a COI?
