Kiwav is USD$160 (include shipping) from Amazon. China made one from Aliexpress.com but deal direct with the seller cause I only want to use Paypal. Cost is USD$88 include EMS shipping. If use China Post only cost USD$79. Some seller selling at USD$68 though but never use them coz they either dun accept paypal or dun feel comfortable with them. Same item can be found in Ebay at S$125.

Bro. Good idea to use Paypal (one additional protection).

You are right. It is just a basic DVR without those many advance features seen on many models in the market. This is what I was looking for which serve my needs. Own one of those gps/m-motion type but never really find the features useful for me so regretted paying so much for features I do not need.

Edit: the china made one comes with motion sensor.

Thanks might give it a shot then. Was considering the blackvue due to its small profile.

My initial take on the Taiwan made Kiwav rear mirror DVR :

1) overall very good quality and blend in the car nicely as if nothing has been installed.

2) Anti-glare mirror is clear and good

3) LCD display very crisp and you can drive with the LCD display on and not disrupt your view (see through effect). I left it on anyway.

4) 5 mins clips recording and no gap in between clips even during looping mode (using normal Sandisk class 4 SD card)

5) As it is not compressed H.264 format, the file can be big so do note this might not be for you if you intend to use it as surveillance camera. 4 GB storage records about 25 mins of video.

6) Video quality is as what you seen from the sample in the web.

7) Very simple control interface, no messy video cable or PC software needed and you can check, playback and change setting easily with the built in display.

8) Has a g.sensor setting but not sure whether it is working or not. Never set it on.

Besides their service is quite good. Even sent me a personal note with thanks and clear instructions. :)

Now lets wait and see how good the china-made DVR will be. No video sample online so I don't know the video quality good or not even though it is 1080p. Anyway not much risk consider it is just a $100 item, but the design looks good.

Thanks bro. Will definitely keep this in the shortlist. I asked bro RadX about the the visor coz my mom has a habit of pulling it down when she drives in the morning and evenings.

Esso petrol stations now offer a car camcorder. Didn't see what's the brand. Price is around $120.

Is that a good buy, more instantly a good recorder?

Good writeup bro!

It arrived much faster than stated in Amazon for me too. Too bad I wasn't home to receive it today.

Also received an email from the seller. It stated that she will include a 4GB SD card.

The device should be able to take up to 32GB.

Hope to see your review on the full HD MIC one.

Thanks and cheers!

Considering the wire is pretty long, perhaps can run it round the A pillar and under the passenger floor so looks 'hidden'

Mine is just dangling straight down from the mirror now

There are 2 different cams on offer at Esso when I went the last time. One is the one you mentioned but another one, which was offered to me is below $100. But I didn't get either.....
