I need help badly from experienced bro here. I had been using blackvue dr400hd for the past 1year+, bought it and installed from nitezconcept. At first it was ok till iwent for holiday. My car can't start when I came back. Towed my car into the workshop, they told me batt was completely flat, i just changed my batt not long ago during that time. Recharged and good to go.

After a few weeks, my car can't start again, went into workshop again, this time I asked them to check what exactly is the problem causing the car batt to be drained. They ran checks and concluded that it is the camera that drained out all my batt and they unplugged it from my batt. Everything ran smoothly for a few months as i do not have time to go back nitezconcept to check out what's wrong with the cam.

Finally, went back to nitezconcept, the boss told me impossible that it's the cameras fault. Advised me to install power magic, I told him, so long can solve my problem, just do it. Installed, ran smoothly for a few months but realized it is not on parking mode when I parked my car coz everytime I enter my car, the cam will say "blackvue, starting normal recording" whereas normally "parking mode disabled". Until few weeks later, my car died again and cannot start, pulled back to my workshop, again they say it's because of. My camera but I explained to the a about power magic. Well, nitezconcept says cam no prob, workshop say cam problem, please advice me what should I do or is there any recommended good and reliable workshop for me to check what really went wrong and solve my problem... Please help.......

Nothing wrong with the camera or your battery.

1) Do not leave the camera on 24/7 w/o any protection, it will drain the battery.

2) The power magic setting is too low. So even if it cut off, the voltage remains is unable to start ur car. Change setting to higher voltage cut off, 12V.

3) Even after power magic cut off power to ur camera, ur car alarm and other stuff still draw power from ur car battery. So if power magic set too low, other stuff will drain it lower and thus u will not be able to start ur car.

4) Ensure that u drive at least 20-40mins every alternate day so that ur car battery stays fully charged all the time.

5) If going for holiday, disconnect power to ur car camera.

When your battery goes flat, 90% of the time, it's the camera.

If your battery is relatively new and it goes flat, 100% of the time, it's the camera.

If I'm selling you the camera, I'll say it's not the camera.

If you still want to keep the camera, get ready a standby battery and jump start cables.

Every time it goes flat, you have something to start the engine.

If you don't believe it's the camera, remove it and see if the flat still happens.

Agree that most likely is camera.

But I do think that it is similar case for most camera be it which brand or where it is made.

Similarly for any workshop, they will also reply u that the camera are working fine on other cars.

So maybe follow adrainli advices on:

1. Check the settings of power magic

2. Drive longer and clocked my KMs to recharge the battery more.

Why pay so much more for a top of the range DVR and yet have to live with all the problems? My 4 "Blackview" DVRs (from 720p to 1080p) that cost $100 or less have been working well from day one (no date/overheating issues) and have helped to me to claim from someone who knocked into my car.

The latest DVRs even no brand ones with NVT or A5 chips have really good video quality (including night) and costs less than $100.

Thanks for sharing and I have the same problem as well. My first battery died but I didn't think too much as it was 3 years old. Then changed to new battery and within 6 months, my car had problems starting. Even though battery was not flat (verified), it was weak. Since I didn't want to get caught with a stalled car, I just changed battery again. Looks like I need to do the setting on the power magic like what some bro mentioned.

planning to buy BV500 HD but my BV400 is still working. Can the same power cords that power the BV400 be used to power the BV500?

also has anyone fixed the BV400 to the rear windscreen?

Finally went back to the AD to have a look at the power magic unit and it was not a setting issue. The unit was malfunctioning!! Unfortunately because my warranty has expired, I had to replace it with a new set at full price. No discounts, no apologies or resource. So much for buying from the AD.. Might as well as get it cheaper from importers. But the thing that irks me most of this - YOU WILL HAVE NO IDEA THAT THE POWER MAGIC IS MALFUNCTIONING UNTIL YOUR CAR DOESN'T START ONE DAY. When that happens, you will waste time calling AA or other workshops to come as well as the battery cost. I have wasted so much time trying to diagnose the problem and spending more than $700 to replace 2 car batteries. And the AD didn't even want to give me a discount on the unit. Definitely not supporting them anymore even though I had recommended so many friends to blackvue.
