Can any bros think of a way to seal up the area between the lens and the CMOS sensor so that dirt cannot go in? Isnt dirt the main problem and not the heat itself?

Tks for the advice [rolleyes]

Measured the temperature of the two heatsinks. This is done when the blackvue has run for 30mins and the windows are opened during driving (Ambient temperature).

As you can see, even with heat sinks, it runs at 63C at steady state. I wonder what temperature does the stock metal plate heat sink runs at. [rolleyes] Bearing in mind the device is meant to operate up to only 60C, at least from the manual.

The website below shows a detailed mod done by some people in Korea. Even after modding, the temperature from the thermometer records "Hi".

My Taiwanese cam can tahan until 85 degrees. :D Using for 24/7 parking as well.

Talking about dash cam mods:

Anyone interested in trying the polarized filter mod? A lot of vids sent to driving idiots has tons of reflections, I myself purchased online some cheap polarized glasses to try. Haven't arrive yet though.

Someone from dashcamtalk show me his vid of trying out the filter he cut out from 3d polarised glasses. I screenshot the video here to show you guys.

No feedback on night recording yet.

Interesting. In that case can also try to use the thin plastic sheet on the 3D glasses we wear in the cinemas. All polarised material will cut light transmission, at least 50% of the light so you are correct to be concern about night recordings.

Previously I talked about installing fan but some say battery cannot last. I research a bit...

those small cpu fan rating is 0.18A, while BV DR400 is MAX 4W. 4W is around 0.33A

Seems plausible.

But will the fan(made of cheap plastic) able to withstand the temperature in the car. I have seen plastic models of cars inside the car melted.

Also with the hot air in the car, would the fan be effectively bring the temperature down.

And the fan will be introducing more dust into the unit itself.

I am looking at installing a solar fan instead.

Has anyone tried to switch off the image compression to reduce CPU load? I did that and found my dr400-2 to be just warm but not hot to consider installing a heat sink. I may even consider switching off the GPS function as I see no use for it.

Hmm, I thought those CPU fans should be able to withstand quite high temperature. Thought of it after thinking cpu fan can be mounted on top of the heatsinks that the above guys did. Usually in CPUs temp also go up to 80 degrees.

As with the hot air in the car, I think with fan still better than without? I do not know, need to test.

I said that some posts ago too, but now I think solar cannot last long, and solar fan probably not powerful.

Maybe can consider solar battery charger that uses cigarette lighter socket to charge when driving. When parked under the sun, it can charge using solar panels.

Hi all, I need some help here.

Bought a DR400 from local distributor about a yr ago.

Every 2-3mths the cam overheat which makes the lens foggy.

My house here is open car park so I have no choice to get it sheltered.

The distributor is very nice to replace a new set for me. But till date they have already replaced 4sets and my warranty is expiring soon about one Mth left. So the distributor suggest me to replace for another DR380 and they will extend another 6mths warranty for me. But I feel that the image is not comparable to my present model which is the version 2 DR400.

I have actually paid $670 for this cam including the power magic. But it has been giving me problems since day 1. And the distributor mentioned that if I were to replace back to the same model after the warranty, I have to pay. And if I change to the latest model I need to top up $200 plus which means I spend nearly $1k for a camera...? It sounds like a joke to do so. So I kinda feel disappointed and distressed as I have to go through the trouble of replacing the cam every 2-3mths and traveling all the way down. I have tried not to on the cam 24hrs, only when I'm driving which actually defeats my initial purpose of a surveillance camera and the extra monies for the power magic 2 installed....so I'm stuck here now whether should I ask for a full refund of the cam as it does not serve its purpose. Even after giving it so many chances. Trying so many ways to reduce the overheating issues. May I know what should I do?

To add on, my car was scratched today by hit and run...."And my camera happened to be unplugged due to the worries of the overheating, so I never turn on the cam" What a lucky day!"

Stuck with a dummy cam with bonus of extra scratches!!!

Totally disappointed with this BLACKVUE...paid so much and end up this way....=(

If donwan DR380 then consider:

1) RMA another new one, sell it away to someone who only needs it for driving mode.

2) Mod heatsinks like what you see in this thread.

3) Get another cheap cam without heat problems for parking mode, make sure it has g-sensor function that locks the files on impact. Continue using DR400 for driving only. Most $100+ cams can capture VRN very clearly when the distance is short. (for your hit and run purpose)

Thanks bro....but the parking is my main problem as mine is open car park so cant avoid....

Even my workplace is also open car park...the overheating issues is persisting even if I nvr turn on while parking still the same issues......haizz

Dr380 I feel that the image is not as clear during the night even if it's full hd as well.

And a little unbalanced to downgrade....for the sake of 6mths warranty....=(

RMA means replace another set under warranty or repair for you. Basically what you've been doing.

I'm not an expert of cams, but I do read quite a bit on it and here's a good site for dashcam comparisons: http://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison/

You can also consult Adrianli from this forum, the dashcam guru of MCF. [;)]

I would suggest u keep the blackvue and use it as a rear car camera and use it as a drive recorder only.

Get a Finevu CR300HD or CR500HD, itronics itb100-SP or Inavi FXD 700 as a surveillance car cam.

I personally using Finevu CR300HD for more than a year liao and it never overheats. Only thing is the internal battery ko-yah in 8mths. but that does not affect the recording, just the date and time not maintained.
