My Finevu is powered by DIY lithium polymer battery pack. Did not tap from car battery as car still under warranty.

DR400 works as a drive recorder very well. Cannot use as surveillance due to heat issues. My DR400 has been running since May 2012. Until today, video still crystal clear!!!

Great to know your DR400s are serving you well Adrianli. Just curious - do you park your car in the sun (with the BVs off) at all?

I mean you have managed to avoid the heat issue known to plague the DR400s. Thanks

Yes, I do park in the sun when BV is off on weekends only. Weekday, home and office, are MSCP.

so you don't take down the BV even when you parked under the sun? If so, that is to say BV will only spoilt when it's left under the sun running........ <_<

No. I dont remove it when parking in the sun. I just leave it there.

No. My first BV spoilt when I ran it for 24/7. So I dont think the sun affects its running, maybe a little bit. But its own electronics made it having heat issues.

Therefore I have been running my RMA BV 400 since May 2012 till today as a drive recorder only and it performed flawlessly.

I'll say it again, if you just want a drive recorder, get the Blackvue DR400. Never use it as a surveillance camera as its internal electronics will self-destruct.

If u need a surveillance car camera, look at other brands, skip Blackvue DR400. Not sure if the new DR500 has resolved this issue thou.

In house dash cam guru. [sunny] Now I know I can actually leave the DR400 in its holder when I leave my car in the sun with the unit off! Haha.

Thanks for the advice Adrianli.

Clair

while using Clair, switch to 28" and wiped off all droplets and returned to vendor due to short recording time.

Switched to ITB 100 and cannot wipe off all droplets with the 28" and stay put with it.

chances of BV will deteriorates under the sun as temperature rises during the operation, increases higher with the outdoor heat.

You can try no recording and may helps to prolong the life span.

Can anyone please advise what is the best way to remove the mounting (double sided tape) of the BV DR350 from my windscreen without damaging the solar film?

I have just got a newer DR400 and would like to swap it with the DR350.

I use a plastic tool with a flat tip like a flat screwdriver made of plastic. Should be able to get it from the Auto Marts.

Bro Topspin,

if you're not too concerned with having a "HD" bracket, I believe the DR400 will also fit into the DR350 bracket. Otherwise Bro Adrianli's suggestion is the way to do.

On BV overheating... I've been using the first-gen DR400G since 11/2011 on 2 cars in front (and also DR350's at backs). The DR400's do run hot but I've not had any problem with the units per se. The DR350's have also been "problem free".

There was a short period where there was no recording, and couple times when there were recordings but couldn't playback on PC. This on one of the DR400 units. Seems more a mSD card problem..., hiccups went away after I reformatted the mSDcard and reinstalled the software/firmware (I had to do these about 3 times though). It may also be due the latest (4/12) firmware update as well. The hiccups came only after I "upgraded" ... I kept getting a message that the BV Player has problem.

Thanks for the tip. Yes I will go with this option. I looked at my DR400 last night inside its box and I thought they looked fatter than the DR350 hence was getting myself ready to replace the mounting if I have to.

Yes my DR350 has been relatively trouble free for over a year now. The only nagging issue is the need to re-format the card occasionally.

I park under shelter at home and office therefore I am quite ok to take a risk with DR400-II. Furthermore, I find Blackvue physical appearance to be very nice compared to others. The fact that DR400 price is now very affordable when purchased on-line helped my decision tremendously.

I am not sure. Try the bigger Auto Marts. Its something like :

adhesive-weight-removal-tool.jpg

Or big DIY shops like Handifix, Selfix, DIY-fix

Or u can go to ur neighbourhood hardware store to get a plastic scrapper which they use to scrap away old paint. Comes in various sizes.
