Neutral Newbie

Just changed my tyres on Saturday and the mech informed me that my drive shaft on the driver's side is leaking grease. The rubber seal looks worn out.

Anyone knows the replacement cost of the it? Got my GT for around a week, just replaced tyres and now drive shaft issue, sigh

Is it dangerous to drive the car before it gets fixed??

That's the CV Boot. You can go either AC/AS, they will remove and send it to a 3rd party workshop to get it cleaned, reconditioned and replaced the boot. Cost between $100-$150, a day job. Get it changed soon.

Below is a pic of it.

Great, thanks for the quick response!

Called AS and Theresa told me they have to be replaced as a pair. Cost between $300 - $500 per side depending on which components are damaged.

Can only send my car in on Friday morning as they're packed for the whole week. Hope the CV boot will hold up till then... [smallcry]

Is your car lowered?

If so, you need to look for a more long term solution. Somehow due to geometry, the boot will break very quickly if the car is lowered.

So you need to compensate for the geometry by extending the drive shafts. There is currently ONLY one car in SG with the kit as far as I know. The rest just blur blur keep paying and paying. The kit comes from the land of the rising sun. So be prepared to bleed whatever's the case.

Hi Mate,

The car isn't lowered. Is it a common problem affecting 156/147/GT? Do I need to go for alignment after that?

Yeah, was sure that'll I'll have to pay more for an Alfa's maintenance, never expected it to be so fast though..

Bro. I change my accumulator with Peter in my old 156. Don't need to eat grass. Then again, like I said. Bye bye warrenty.

I've long given up on EA, except for the regular servicing so I get a nice stamp on my booklet.

Would definitely suggest checking the pricing at AS/AC. I once had this accumulator issue also. Was solved under warranty by EA but didn't sound like THAT major a job!

seepage at accumulator, need to replace actuator, about 9.2k.. and they are voiding my warranty because i did not service with them.

damn

I don't see the link between having oil change elsewhere and voiding of warranty. It is in the warranty booklet though that you have to service with them. If they play hard ball tough to have a recourse. And it sure is not confidence inspiring for other owners.

If the leak is the cause of all the issues, Peter could assist with a change of the accumulator. Why change the whole unit? I think their chopper is ready to chop carrot.

Lame reasoning! With such lousy support, how can it encourage potential buyers and in fact, it is a push factor for existing owners. Glad i bought my car used with no warranty.

Agree! [mad]

Sometime I think the SA is at fault. Goes by the book too much. Maybe like what Ftco mentioned, can just change the accumulator.

I'd prefer to repair at EA rather than outside, 7 mths ago when I crashed into the lorry, I brought it back to EA and did own damage claim even though I know they'll be expensive.

routine servicing is a diff story. just oil change, do a quick inspection of checklist and go..max 2 hours.. I need my car as I'm in sales and I cannot afford to leave my car with agent for half a day to one day. if leng kee, maybe ok but in teban there's no mrt.. only major servicing then I go back to agent because that's when major wear and tear items needs to be replaced.

it worked well for all 4 of my previous jap cars major svc at 40k, 80k. I ran my lancer for over a hundred thousand km like that also, everyone says the cvt gearbox is problematic but no issue with my 4 years of ownership.

guess having a conti is diff.. with all the electronics and stuff.. really its a lesson learned for me. [bigcry]

Yeah it is an inconvenient place. Hate to go there for servicing.

Not all conti has such issues, it's Alfa and some other brands.

My old merc never had any issue till 80k and my wife's 3er also had no such issues.

Alfa problems are not unknown even at low mileage, so I guess when buying it, u would have make provisions for it

When I bought mine, the car agent helped me to get the car repaired under warranty (fuel pump & steering hydraulic hose clip) and done the servicing. The agent even offered to pick up and send the car to EA. My support came from car agent. But whole process took about 10 days including warranty transfer inspection.

Discovered this morning. May the culprit's fingers be minced by a blender! [rifle]

Mine had 5 of these. Just one more yesterday. Cars parked on the same roll suffered the same. I intend to mask / vinyl wrap my car.
