WTB wagon - seeking opinion

Not sure if you are willing to consider Honda Jade. Whether it's a wagon or not is quite subjective (but it is to me).

Your top three choices are fairly sound so either of them are fine. I drive Mazda 6 wagon myself so not fair to recommend 1.

i30 wagon should be most economical to drive.

Cool, I actually did spend some time eyeing the Jade. Looks nice and wagon-like. 1.5T so decent performance with affordable road tax. The point of hesitation for me is the 2nd row being a 2-seat config rather than a typical 3-seat bench. With 1 young kid still ok, mum can sit 2nd row to jaga, but if 1 more baby becomes a bit harder to arrange I feel.

Just went to browse Jade again - depre is on the high side I feel.

Turbocharged

Actually, Mazda 5 can be a wagon too if you keep the 3rd row seats folded. Plus you get extra pair of auto sliding doors.  😁

For that matter, you can say the same for Sienta for something one size smaller.

@boonhat_91 Yup, used to have many trips up North before COVID and the kids much less commitments during the weekends.

The Insignia GS sedan is also a rarity in Singapore. Those that you can see on the roads would usually be the 1.5 petrol or 1.6 Diesel therefore other than some body parts, I guess it will be absolutely hard to find parts yourself outside.

Expensive, not good looking.

On the other hand, the PI-only Corolla Touring is a bit more attractive to me. But also expensive...

Can narrow down to just 3?

A lot of the cars I see for me I will strike off quickly.

The 3 cylinders are out. The Hyundai unit is worth considering. The Mazda you wont want cos of the road tax. Subaru I am not sure what kinda effect you will get from the cvt gb. The flat engine has to be overhauled once the gasket leaks. Too much work.

Opel Insignia should be a very old car by now. The GM took the 2.0L TC engine from Saab and put it in this car. On paper it looks good but old tech, will experience turbo lag. By now it should need a new turbo replacement, radiator and hoses replacements. A lot of messy work for old cars.

Only the Hyundai is a good contender.

The i30 has DCT issues also, I owned the hatchback for 2.5 years and changed clutch two times under warranty. Sold it quickly thereafter for a Mazda.

Wow 2 times in 2.5 years is a lot. Do you know other i30 owners who suffered the same?

Sometimes when moving off from stationary, the car jerks but doesn't move. And overall general jerkiness around gears 1 and 2.

You can google hyundai DCT issues. There are some problems reported but of course not as widespread as VW.

That said, the i30 was Still tremendous value for its price back then when it was <90k and the car is still a nice drive on the highways and very stable.

@boonhat_91 I actually own choice 1 and 2 before 😃

got the levorg first... 1st time driving turbo car and feel exhilarating. can feel the quick pick up. enjoy the 1st year and eventually get used to the turbo... so not much thrill factor after that and then start to feel that the lack of spaciousness start to kick in.

switch to Mazda 6 wagon after 2years of levorg ownership and never look back since. still driving it now after near to 5 yrs ownership and enjoy the look and the space it offered for my family as compare to the levorg.

satki!! Thanks for giving your feedback on both rides too!

If you don't mind sharing more, back then when you got the levorg, was there anything else your were considering and why did you choose levorg?

@boonhat_91 before levorg, I was driving mazda 6 hatchback 😅

thought of trying something different (i.e. turbo engine, awd) but then 1.5 year later, realised that the "good old" Mazda 6 coupled with the points I highlighted, still the most suitable for me so got back to a Mazda 6 again (in a wagon form factor) 😄
