Renegade777 5th Gear July 15, 2012 Share July 15, 2012 thanks but HP, is it better than WD or Seagate in terms of HDD reputation? IMO, Seagate is my choice.
Juzzme 3rd Gear July 15, 2012 Share July 15, 2012 thanks but HP, is it better than WD or Seagate in terms of HDD reputation? HP doesn't manufacture HDD afaik. The drive itself from some other co. I personally feel that one impt consideration for these portable HDDs is the software that comes with it that automates the backup and sync process. The Seagate i have has a pretty good suite that allows me to precisely configure what, when and how the files are synced between various machines. Elmo 4th Gear July 15, 2012 Share July 15, 2012 thanks but HP, is it better than WD or Seagate in terms of HDD reputation? In order of reputation, Seagate, WD, HP. I will also consider Toshiba and Sony which is about the same as HP imo. As another bro said, the s/w provided like Seagate's is useful. For me I need the capacity more than the s/w so for that capacity and price, HP met my needs. No data on reliability though and I would believe if the data is impt enough, more than 1 backup is necessary with diff brand HDD.

Happily1986 5th Gear July 15, 2012 Share July 15, 2012 Sorry 2.5inch WD Passport basically you are paying more for the backup software solution. I paid $85 for a WD Elements 500GB 1 year ago but yours is USB 3.0 mine only USB 2.0. The WD's Element series lack the backup suite as well. I think WD has never been known to be strong in terms of bundled backup suites, if you are looking for a one stop backup solution. If you have access to third party backup suites then maybe it is no issue.
