Gaolow 4th Gear July 12, 2012 Share July 12, 2012 is it illegal to have a strip of LED mounted inside the car rear windows..the LEd will be turn on for 4th brake light (red) plus signal light(orange) and reverse light (white)... doing that is more for safety than display..especially for those heavy truck or lorry to able to see these light due to their tall car body.. ↡ Advertisement
Liping24cn Clutched July 12, 2012 Share July 12, 2012 Yes, it's illegal. But you can tell the installer to fix a switch or connector at a easy to reach location. So that you an switch it off when you see mata or road block.
Huntz Clutched July 12, 2012 Share July 12, 2012 From LTA website Q: Can I install a LED Message Display (e.g. Thank you, Sorry etc) at rear of my vehicle wind screen? A: We do not allow the installation of additional or decorative vehicle lighting (both exterior and interior) as they could cause distraction or confusion to the vehicle driver and/or to other road users. As a result, road safety would be compromised.
Liping24cn Clutched July 12, 2012 Share July 12, 2012 Why not install the wiring into your cabin light. Make the cabin light turn on when you hit the brake. The entire car interior light up. And it's perfectly legal as you did not add any lights that was not originally there. This way should be legal right?
Dark 5th Gear July 12, 2012 Share July 12, 2012 For the sake of others, please dun do it as it is going to irritate and cause discomfort to the drivers behind you. Brake light should not be any color other then red and led light will be too glaring. For the sake of yourself, please still dun do it for the risk of getting fined by LTA. Wolf2801 Clutched July 12, 2012 Share July 12, 2012 just really dun understand how LTA rules on this... as you can see... Most Conti cars now comes with factory fitted DRL (Daytime Running Lights)... this they approved cos it's factory fitted... But if after market fittings... says of same specs as those Conti cars... it's considered Illegal and road safety compromised... sounds abit like not right... Just my 2 cents comments... MODs don't yellow card me for this...

How does doing what you said enhance safety other than being a distraction to other drivers? The normal brake light + 3rd brake light is already visible enough. You could be right about it. But doing what you say is a bit exaggerated ie. LED light + signal light + reverse light Besides, you can always choose to get out of the way if u feel threatened by a tailgating truck. Do spare a thought for many others who will be distracted by your lights.

If it causes distraction, it doesn't make a difference whether it is a police escort vehicle or a normal civilian vehicle. Then advertisments on buses, taxis other vehicles are also causing distractions, why didn't LTA order the removal of them?

If it doesn't come from the factory, and was not installed with the car when it was sent for homologation, it is illegal. ↡ Advertisement
