I Suggest you first of all plz visit to a good auto repair shop and confirm that the shock absorber replacement is necessary or not . Some time there is commission of mechanics with the shop keepers on sale their products. Because the cost you are telling is very high. If you take my advise there is a shop name Luxurati Inc. They can provide you shock absorber at a good price.

My sunny mileage 161k and TCM recommended me to change all four for $535 including gst.

Posted above on 24 Jul 2012. Now 24 Dec 2013 and my mileage have reached 229k [sweatdrop] Hope I don't need to change again before end of 10 years in Jul 2016

Hello all,

I am replacing my front absorber. The quote from stockist.

Original Mazda is 135 per piece.

KYB excel G is 168 per piece.

Anyone know why KYB (OEM) is more expensive than original.

Is it true?

That apparently is the case for my Altis too ( where OEM $ costs more, even though it's made in Thailand ) because the OEM KYB has an orifice/groove which allows the anti-roll bar to sit into during load compression. I bought the KYB Excel-G (Japan) but only to realise the anti-roll bar hits the absorber, have to use grinder to cut out that groove so it doesn't knock. Bought 4 Excel-G for $320 for my Altis, changed it for $100 in Singapore and did alignment in JB for RM25. I also asked how much in JB workshops how much to let them change the 4 absorbers, was quoted RM100 for replacement AND alignment.

Good information.

think stick to original will be a better choice and less headache. Furthermore also cheaper.

Im sill thinking whether to change just the front absorber or all the 4.

Are absorbers cheaper here or in Malaysia? TIA.

I never check the price in Malaysia. Sorry, cant advise you on this. Perhaps more experience bros here can advise.

But in general, my personal feel is that Malaysia would definitely be cheaper.

I got workshop owner telling me he could get good price for KYB from M'sia. I tot it would be a real steal if we can get it from M'sia. However, I heard from a M'sia friend that Malaysian themselves dont buy locally as the shock manufactured locally is on the softer side. They wanted KYB from Singapore. So price is not everything. Always got pro & con.

Hearsay KYB has much better drive than stock. It's worth the bucks just adding a little more dollars.

If you are feeling rich, get Bilstein B6. :D
