Did you guys change out the rubber mounts when replacing the absorbers?

The rubber mounts usually quite lasting but if u change them together when u change shocks yr ride sud b smoother n quieter.

Many wil change e mounts after the 2nd time ty change the shocks to save a bit but e choice is yours.

Of course to change is better n safer so it depends on u actually. But if u can hear" "klonk klonk" when u go over bumps. Yr rubber mounts r gone for sure.

The price of the mount is not expensive, $40 per pic for my kimchi car.

not sure abt your car, so if u can, change it too when changing absorbers as the

Labour cost shall be the same w or without the mount as when u remove the old absorber u will be accessing the mount too. Else next time if the mounts is spoil before the absorbers u will need to pay labour again to change it and not forgeting alignment cost again.

I was quoted for "rubber stoppers" as well. Is this the same as the mount or different?

For alternative affordable options, can try SACHS (Germany) shocks, see http://www.jsautomotive.com.sg/shock.html

If you're driving KIA & Hyundai, can try Mando (Korea) Shocks /http://www.jsautomotive.com.sg/mando_plus.html

For Korean cars like Kia, Hyundai n Chevy u can get the OEM Mando shocks much cheaper than original shocks.

just make sure your Mando is made in Korea. Ty also make in China n India which I dun advise.

I got my Mando shocks(MIK) for my Optra Estate from Aik Hoe at Race Course Road. Abt 40% cheaper than original selling at Song he or He Xing.

Those rubber stoppers(also called bump stop) r diffierent n look like a D size torchlight battery but made of rubber.

Cost abt $5-15 ea depending on what car.

I change everything at one go when I changed my shocks at JB workshop. All parts I bought in SG at Aik Hoe cos these parts cost much more in JB.

Okay thanks. So 3 things to change:

1. Rubber stoppers/bump stop

2. Shock Absorber

3. Rubber mount

Anything else?

When it sdone dun forget to do your 4 wheel computerised alignment.

In SG it costs abt S$70. In JB only RM30 for exactly the same thing. [sly]

Not too familiar with JB so I was planning to get it changed and aligned in Singapore.

Unless you have a WS in JB to recommend?

There r a few I use.

Easy to find is Autobacs. Clear cway n drive along Jln Terbau n just after Taman Melodies n the big Caltex station, keep looking left.

They now occupy the big bungalow. If u see Southern City Mall then u have already passed it.

What alternative are you looking for? It's either change or no change. Unless it's a super high end absorber, it cannot be overhauled. If it's not a massive leak where all the oil is out, leave it. You can check by pressing down and releasing that corner. Does it bounce? Google shock absorber bounce test to get a YouTube explaination of what I'm talking about.

Just push down on the rear of your car, on the side of the leaking shock absorber, and see how it bounces. A normal absorber should go down and then up to the rest position. If it bounces a lot, it might be a good idea to change it. Else you can monitor and see if it gets worse.

If you do not change the worn shocks, be prepared for more dangerous driving conditions and faster tyre wear. Your braking distance will increase, and if you do hit a bump or hole while taking a corner, the whole car may even jump sideways as the job of absorber is to keep the car tyres in contact with the road
