13177 Hypersonic July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 Does it affect the current foreigners workers working here?! Seems like the minimum salary that foreigners worker earn is getting higher and higher. If those companies who doesnt mind paying or no choice have to employ them, these foreigners worker pay is even higher than some s'poreans.

Royho1979 Clutched July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 better than doing nothing at all Cutting a person's artery and giving him a handy-plast is doing something, but not adequate.
Gee 1st Gear July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 "...stricter rules for FAMILIES of foreigners..." FT influx flood gate still wide open imho, so nothing's change.

LoverofCar 6th Gear July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 Let me read the hidden agenda behind....''Less family members being sponsored...mean more slot for other ''FT'' to come in to work'' = No change on foreigner policy..........
Taipan49 3rd Gear July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 They can't do a rapid u-turn on this as it will be a big and costly shock to many companies. It will allow companies time to restructure as the "good 'ol days" of cheap and readily available foreign labour is drawing to an end. Hence the harping on about increasing productivity (which doesn't necessarily mean working harder, but smarter). But already some biz are feeling the pressure. MOM increasing local quotas, but employers struggling to get locals to work for them.

Royho1979 Clutched July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 So you have a better suggestion? For my metaphor, tourniquet the arm and get to the hospital. For the FT issue. The issue is never about income level but the number we let in. Lets be clear, we have more people who can earn >SD8,000 a month than the country can hold. Solution: Do a study on how many people the country can hold comfortably and then size the number of foreigners coming in according to our needs. Frankly speaking, we need a lot of nurses and workers in the construction industry. If they are willing they (and their families) are welcome to become Singaporeans despite their lower salaries. I am far more receptive to these people and the family of these.who toil and contributed to the country than scholars (with their entitlement complex) who get scholarship, study here then leave. Scion Turbocharged July 10, 2012 Share July 10, 2012 on one hand, they always blame our aging population is due to lack of birth to replace the young workforce... on the other hand, they last time so easily allow families of foreign workers to come over to stay, especially their parents which (no offense) have little to offer to the contributions to our economies ↡ Advertisement
