Electric cars

The EVs here in Singapore are mostly registered under the "RD" plate or aka "research & developement" I think only the Tesla owned by a Vietnamese here registered his as an EV. It cost a bomb to do so. Even the BYD taxis are register under "RD" plate.

There's a few others (including a friend of mine) who placed deposits during the launch back in 2011. The vehicles never came through. I think he probably gave up the idea of owning a Tesla by now.

Wireless charging is coming and this is so cool.

https://www.motor1.com/news/241573/wireless-charging-within-two-years/

Wireless charging will be available on electric and plug-in vehicles within two years, one of the leading wireless tech companies has claimed. According to Graeme Davison, vice-president for business development and marketing at tech firm Qualcomm, technology similar to that currently used to charge mobile phones will arrive on the electric vehicle market "in 18-24 months."

Qualcomm is one of a number of companies chasing commercially available wireless charging, which uses high-frequency magnetic fields to transmit from a pad on the ground to a receiver on the vehicle. The vehicle then turns the magnetic pulses into electricity to charge the battery.

Eventually, Qualcomm says wireless charging will become available on the move, with charging pads built into roads, and the company has already demonstrated the technology. However, static charging is far closer to commercial viability. The firm has been testing its systems in Formula E for some time, where they are used to charge the safety and medical cars.

Speaking at the Paris ePrix at the end of last month, Davison said: "We’ve had a couple of manufacturers award design wins to Qualcomm technology – they’re shrouded in secrecy – but you will see them coming out in the design cycle, so in 18-24 months you’ll be able to order vehicles with wireless charging on them."

Davison also said that although the technology may be slightly more expensive while in its infancy, it will eventually cost the same as plug-in charging.

"The manufacturers control the price, but they’re showing that they’ll get to effectively the same cost as plug-in systems. It depends on the manufacturer, but in the first few years there might be a discrepancy where wireless charging is seen as the most expensive option, but when we get to volume and maturity there will be no difference between them."

VES for EV how much? [sly] ....

no VES no talk?

As electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars consume electricity which produces CO2 emission at the point of power generation, an emissions factor of 0.4g CO2/Wh will be applied to their electricity energy consumption to compute their equivalent CO2 emission for electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars registered from 1 July 2017.

For Tesla Model X, P100D will have a default CO2 of 40g.  That will be band A1 20k rebate.

Currently, BMW 330e is enjoying 10k rebate.

That's up front. Petrol duties also cannot collect from EV. How to expect the greedy govt to support it?

Elon Musk doesn't know there's 60 cents per litre duties plus 7% GST (about another 15-20 cents), plus lease for the petrol kiosk land (about 2M a year I think) etc.

Our best (highest paid must be best) in the world garmen not stupid one, to cut off own 财路。  Esp if electric cars are charged using solar power - garmen would have zero income other than COE and ARF.

Can someone explain to him?

Twincharged

If electric cars can be charged from empty to full within minutes and can run at least 400km.. It will be very popular.. Until then petrol or diesel or hybrid will be a more popular option..

Using EV is not 100% emission free, if you consider the electricity that it consumes comes from a generation process that emits CO2, Nox , Sox and other gases. Govt uses a 0.4 factor to account for that. Users are shifting the emission location to elsewhere, but still emitting. The benefit is a cleaner city, and a cleaner Earth on a 0.4 factor.

Do your phone charged within mins?

Currently electric car takes 1 hr to charge from almost empty to full.

That's almost as fast as iPhone with USB-C charger.

I believe any Tesla with 100wh can do 400km range. Who gonna pay more than 0.5m for that?
