Other than Tesla Power wall, I don't see any powerbank large enough.

I am not sure whether you can move it around with Tesla Power Wall weight.

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng's fourth-quarter net loss narrows 42per cent

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Xpeng Inc said on Monday its net loss in the fourth quarter of last year narrowed 42per cent from the same period in 2019, as EV sales increased in the world's biggest car market.

New York-listed Xpeng, which sells mainly in China and competes with Tesla Inc and Nio Inc, said its net loss attributable to ordinary shareholders was 787.4 million yuan (US$120.7 million) for the quarter, compared with 1,354.6 million yuan a year earlier.

In the final three months last year, revenue jumped 346per cent year-on-year to 2.85 billion yuan. It expects total revenue for the first quarter of 2021 to be approximately 2.6 billion yuan, up around 531per cent from the first quarter of 2020.

Swopping batteries won't work. Imagine a new EV car owner coming for a charge, finds his car replaced with an old used fully-charged battery. Nobody wants that.

Batteries are consumables, they wear and tear. They lose their capacity to hold charge as they aged. So the last guy who gets that dying battery is going to kpkb.

It's not like energy, petrol or electricity, wherein you pay for it and it's used.

Swapping of batteries.. na.. different car manufacturers will have different designs on the size and layout of the batteries. That itself are already so many different size and layout, how to swap? Impossible, for swapping to be feasible, 1st need to have standardized size and layout, which all car manufacturers will 100% reject it. So this swapping of batteries is just on paper looks nice but will not work in actual situation.

For the engineers here...

Is there a 'safe and efficient' method to convert electricity other than charging?

An extra step or two ....?

This linear thinking of putting electricity in and out seems awful old school and perhaps deliberate...

Creating infrastructure seems wasteful/profitable as white elephant.

The Mospeada cartoon concept biomass battery comes to mind.

Anyways, it should be law that what battery is installed and manufacture place and time be mandated for electric cars sold here to be clearly represented.

This cowboy presentation of electronic models is reminiscent of early automobile production.

Here scotty tell about chevrolet espark...

Israeli 5-minute battery charge aims to fire up electric cars....

Have all along said that new battery tech and how it is charged will be the game change for early this century. Once we can do it well. We will be powered by battery. Maybe a personal manpack flyer can also be possible.

Neutral Newbie

You know, I'm not too keen on electric cars either and I think everyone should think about what you say. Although, if you read the news, relatively recently somewhere in Texas, if I'm not mistaken, people lost power, and Tesla owners were warming up in their cars because of the weather conditions. The Tesla battery turned out to be very energy efficient and helped people to survive the disaster. But you know, I am an advocate of gasoline-powered cars, I think that this fuel will not leave us for a long time.

Haha this reminds me of the arrival of solid state drives... up to that point everyone was saying how floppy disks can never keep up... still remember installing games with >15 floppies required and thinking everyone will have to carry around their own external HDD in the future... instead thumb drive came out. now too small keep losing it 😅

Yup, with technological advancement, things keep improving, new invention keep coming. Now Tesla already had technology for battery that can last 1million miles before it start to degrade. So who knows, hopefully in 10 yrs time there will have battery technology that could be charged up full in 10 minutes or less.
