Tesla not using lidar is also a cost related issue.

End of the day it's profit-driven..

After watching some videos showing the effectiveness of auto braking in Tesla and car equippped with Lidar system, I would might paying more to drive a "taxi". Just like airbags, not that I want to use it, but in the unfortunate event, it can save live(s).

What is $1K, $2K or $3K more when our car cost in excess of $150K? Safety first.

Posted in the Conti BMW thread but hope to get more advice here.

Long story short. My BMW225xe PHEV high voltage battery has residual capacity of 42% as measured by PML. Car is 5.5 years old and very low mileage. PML refused to replace battery under warranty because OBD did not flag battery fault even though battery severely degraded. BMW Asia is aware of this but is not helpful.

Anyone has experience with such severely degraded battery and managed to get battery replaced by AD? Any advice what I can do?

I thought the industry standard is anything less than 70%? If still need to wait for OBD to scream, it does not look well on bmw Asia. Please keep us updated as I am eyeing bimmer EV but with this, I will be having 2nd thoughts. Good luck!

same, the lack of response to an owner's struggle with EV degradation isn't confidence inspiring at all.

Yes it seems 70% is industry norm also for BMW in other countries so I was very surprised when PML insisted that battery degradation is not warrantied regardless of severity

Mercedes announced testing of solid state batteries on EQS car. At least got some specific details unlike some places that always over promise and under deliver.

Mercedes says that solid state batteries will be available in production vehicles by the end of the decade! That means at least another years of waiting to see if solid state batteries become a reality. Wondering how much Mercedes is going to charge for their solid state battery? Wont be cheap. In the meantime, LFP is going to take over the lowest cost product category.

You mean Toyota? Which has talked for more than 10 years and promise solid state battery by 2027/2028?
