Hybrid will have best of both worlds.. Also the concerns of both worlds...

The last time I owned a hybrid, the frequency of servicing, the wear and tear parts to change is not any less than a full ICE.... I also have to deal with degradation of the hybrid battery as well as the power distribution circuitry failure.

So if you ask me now if I will still go for hybrid in future... It is a big NO.

My opinion... It's either you keep to ICE or you go full on into BEV... Not in between.

Maybe you had the older tech. The previous gen Prius was very good. The taxi and PHV attest to its reliability and low cost of ownership.

mine was lexus/toyota hybrid.... I will assume Toyota use the same tech and know how from their Prius to be applied to my car...😅

The point is if you have 2 systems in play, you have 2 systems' benefit and also reasonably expect 2 systems' maintenance and reliability issues. The reliability record is another matter altogether.

I am just sharing my maybe anecdotal experience, may not apply to all models.

Anyway, once bitten twice shy. 😅

I concur with you. Either EV or ICE.

Not only there are two separate system to maintain. The thought of lugging xtra weight don't sit well with me.

I share similar thoughts. The reason to go EV for me is to (i) faster ride at lower cost (relative to current ride); (ii) no maintenance (almost) and (iii) no more petrol station run (just park at home/ work and charge once in 1-2 weeks).

Not always true but green hybrids like Toyota (for fuel efficiency and not performance), will whine like a whore in heat that cannot cum when pushed hard.   I rather stay with ICE 😂😂😂

With ICE u need to deal with radiator.  Over heat. Engine oil change . Atf change .gear box issue. Etc.

With EV. The main issue is battery.

( we take away all the similar problem like under carriage. Suspension).

With hybrid.  U need to deal with all the above combined together. 😒😒

Boh bian. Almost all of Toyota's hybrid models are equipped with CVT transmission, which is very very bad for spirited driving 😂

Can try hyundai Hybrid. 6 speed DCT. I like it, so far. Have been driving the Tucson 1.6T hybrid for 2.5yrs. Pretty nice at 223hp.

That is a performance hybrid.

My under warranty G30 is already seeing more workshop visits, damn sian having to deal with PML. Simple repairs for a coolant leak takes 2-3 days.

Should choose e-CVT.

Recently, I drove Honda Jazz.

The engine was screaming and speed still increases.

This is far cry from Honda Civic Hybrid from FD era. RPM moves but car still stationary.

The commonly overlooked fact about EVs......

https://evcentral.com.au/why-do-ev-battery-packs-need-a-cooling-system/

EV owners are not immune from having to deal with coolant issues....there are still coolant pumps, compressor, radiators and fan to fail on them...

🫡 thanks for the heads-up man! I just went to testdrive UX and NX was running a promo. Not really a fan of cvt and comfort drive. 😅

Did you felt the "rubber band" effect of the cvt ?

I was the passenger in the test drive. Not so much about the rubber band, it is more of...that it is just a very very very comfortable car, good quality car. But if I am going to pay ~300k, it better drives like an ultimate driving machine when I want it to or comfy when I need it to be, not just 2x better of a toyota. Tried atto 3 for fun, it is a very comfortable ride too for 160k with instant torque and efficiency. I had much more fun testdriving the MG4 which is also relatively comfortable but with much more character in the drive. It reminds me of my 3 series rides.

Looking for hybrid or ev as possible next ride, so thought just gave lexus a try.

Just mho. 🙏

Toyota/Lexus now have e-CVT.  It is not the rubber band CVT per se but not sure why they call it CVT.   🤣
If it is ultimate driving machine,  I feel UX and NX would be a mismatch.  On paper,  my smaller engine Toyota does 0-100 the same timing as the NX.
I would say Atto 3 is efficient,  it does not do justice to the instant torque for 0-100.

If charging and range is non-issue, just got for EV.

Unfortunately they are 😂. So I am toying with the idea of keeping current ICE ride and get a fun RWD ev like MG4. So if I run out of range mid week, I got my current ICE to fall back on. Problem is I need to see how deep my wallet is. 😁
