I thought it is just the Canadian dealer taking the easy way out that led to the write off? 

Reading the BMW's hybrid story by another forumer on battery degradation, ie. dealer unwilling to honor the warranty, it looks like all issues relating to battery warranties and replacement will take a while to sort out.

I thought it is strange that you built an EV whereby the battery IS the car and you void the warranty when the battery cover is damaged.  It is like selling an ICE car but warranty is void if engine bay is violated in an accident.  Knn... What logic is that?

That's just my guess. But imagine who would tear down the whole car to see if there is any physical damage to the thousands of battery cells? And even it there is no physical damage, one will not know if the batteries are compromised internally. 

If they are charging the change of battery as much as the car, it's just telling the customer that they don't want to do. Reason might be capability or liability.

U can only build a car with sufficient risk mitigation before it becomes an expensive monstrosity that no one can afford or build at a price point of affordably.

you cant possibly build a cage do tough that only a tank can break open for repair

Theoretically, you can also design a phone and buy everything off the shelf but i don't think it is so simple.   At least apple still design the chip in the iphone and controls the manufacturing process (using contractors like foxconn). 

What about batteries? Tesla is buying battery cells from both BYD and CATL but it also has its own battery technology.

I just came back from Hangzhou. EV business in China is exactly the same as selling a smartphone. Huawei's Luxeed S7 sedan is sold in Huawei store, side by side their smartphones (in the background). Not uncommon to see the more premium Chinese EV makers such as Nio, Li Auto, Tesla, Zeekr stores in shopping malls.

Not just shopping malls. Also pop up stalls at pasar malam aka festive markets. Saw one such pop-up tent next to 静安寺 yesterday.

depends whr u go.  Mine cheapest is $0.35 per kw/h in AC.

 

Cheapest DC i have used is $0.586 per kw/h. Image below are the variants

Oh yea, I just happened to check on plugshare and the nearest one was 70c, but most places i checked were 45-60c.. for DC

Nowadays, we got 100kwh DC charger (finally)

Why don't have those 350kwh kind yet? Will shorten the time required to charge, should be the requirement when more and more EVs come onboard.

I think the priority is towards more AC.

Maybe 350kwh has safety concerns within enclosed area.
