This unfortunate incident happened in petaling jaya, but nonetheless still a common occurrence in JB. Please advise all your female counterparts not to carry handbag or sling bag while walking along the road. Best is don't carry at all when you're across the causeway.

dont worry. Malaysia is a very safe place to go to. I garner this from a few heros in this forum who swear by malaysia and sing negaraku daily when they enter. These type of news ( snatch theft cum murder ) is prevalent in all parts of malaysia, esp in JB and I wonder how come they make a big hoo-haa out of this.

dont worry malaysia is still very safe. Come come for our cheap petrol and car wash

That's the thing about Malaysia. U save save save.........kana 1 time jialat, u return all with interest , late charge, admin fee, 1 time charge... not worth imo. esp JB. Malaysian ex colleagues adv me that they themselves avoid JB. For those who stay further up.

I never wanted to comment on the safety of Malaysia since reading this topic and following for weeks.

in the past when I was on my smaller cc bike, I often went into Malaysia to pump petrol, I used to think it was safe. a year later I changed to bigger cc bike, went into Malaysia for petrol and cigarettes. and there was this group of Indian guys with couple of small cc bikes kept looking at me (I usually went in alone). when I was leaving, they got onto their bike as well, following me quite a distance until a small road, dim lighting, then they sort of formed up formations trying to "cage" me. I panicked, so I just full throttle and got away from them.. then on, I realize it's not so safe afterall..

although I never been robbed nor confirmed they were trying to rob me. but I never went into Malaysia again.

I never would, especially driving..

I heard cases of robbery, attempt to robbery from friends. one of them

is a Malaysian driving Malaysia car with wife and baby on board, there is actually robber trying to smash his window while on the move.. even sounding his horn, no one by the road cares. even he drove to police station, that 2 bike just rode off. police don't even bother to ask what happened.

those who think its safe, it's because u haven't met anything yet.

but.. going up to the mountains often, you will meet tigers one day.

Yes bigger cc spore bikes are well targeted. You are very lucky to escape. My opposite neighbour used to park his bigger cc sg bike in his car pouch and protected by autogate. He loves to use this bike to cheong to sg via tuas daily. One fine morning 4am he woke up to realise his bike is missing and autogate forced opened.

He still went on to buy a big bike and u know where he park? Inside his living room next to his sofa.

Just remember, going into Malaysia is like playing a game of GTA (Grand Theft Auto). You need to have a mindset of being in the game of such. There are a lot of muggings out there. I have relatives and friends up there, and all experienced some sort of crime. So it's just a matter of time we Singaporeans regular will face one too, just need to be mentally prepare for it and what actions prepare to take.

Hopefully some regulars can share some tips.

JOHOR BARU: An attempt by a group of men to flee with a bank's automated teller machine (ATM) was foiled yesterday morning after several motorists sounded their horns when they noticed that something was amiss.

The incident happened at a bank in Taman Tasek, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak here at 5.15am after four men had broken the glass door of the bank and attempted to cart off the ATM upon tying it to a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Motorists travelling on the main road noticed the ATM outside the bank and honked to scare off the men.

Johor Criminal Investigation Department acting chief Assistant Commissioner Nor Azizan Anan said the Johor Baru Selatan district control centre received a distress call at 5.45am about an ATM left outside a bank in Taman Tasek.

"Acting on the information, police dispatched a team to the scene.

"They found the ATM abandoned on the five-foot walkway of a shophouse lot," he said yesterday.

Nor Azizan said the bank's closed-circuit television camera footage showed that four men in masks had smashed the glass door of the premises at 5.15am.

"The men took 10 to 15 minutes to dislodge the ATM before leaving it on the walkway."

He added that police had contacted the bank's management. It is believed that the ATM contained about RM150,000.

Police are investigating the incident to determine if the men were involved in similar crimes in the state.

Nor Azizan said police did not rule out the possibility that the four men were also involved in another botched ATM robbery attempt at a bank in Taman Johor Jaya, here, last week. - New Straits Times

malaysian car also must see wat type. Malaysian car that is Toyota, Honda, Alphard, Accord, confirm attract red eyes. Any SG plate in JB, SG bikes 400cc +, Malaysian plate but Jap brand & above = magnet for robbers. Not worth at all for the cheap petrol & wat not. U kana once = refund everything & more. And since it involves SInga, the police there wont even care...

lol. malaysians were made to be contented with small bikes / proton cars due to safety. but true enough, those 250cc and above bikes with malaysia plate, I see the riders wear leather jackets, I think they know the risk of being slash and robbed or hijacked. it's seriously quite dangerous. maybe I've been living in Singapore for my whole life, anything shorter than Singapore I feel it's dangerous.

the robbing of ATM had been successfully pulled off before in Malaysia. I remember seeing the news somewhere. this is just one case of failed robbery, and the police, media, trying to make it looks as if they are fast in response and stopping crime effectively. however, they ain't.
