Cycling or Driving

I agree, but not when your workplace is a 10min ride away. No point in spending top dollars.

Got nice bicycle no girl see, got car only girl surely see.

Actually my concern for not buying more expensive bike is security against theft when left by the roadside. My current bike hardly appeal to theft

If from home to workplace is well connected by Park Connectors, then it would be nice to cycle to work everyday.

If the cycling route, need to cut thru major roads and cycle on asphalt road, then I would never cycle to workplace.

There must be a reason WHY one buy a car originally. To be safe and convenient!

i try to cycle 2x a week to work usually tue and thu... 21km to work and 29km from work... the extra distance is due to avoidance of heavy traffic in the evening.. in the morning 7-ish is moderately good for cycling as there are some roads which do not have many cars..

You enjoying the scenery or looking for wild boars?

both!! :D

if i go faster, i worry:- brakes cannot stop the bike in time (coz no ABS) if wild boars dash out suddenly into my path; my legs get tired :o

Many thanks for the introduction. Practical knowledge of the Highway Code useful for road safety. The Bus Lanes are restricted to buses and bicycles (source: LTA). Cycle in single file between the two yellow lines parallel to the kerb. Han signals a must to avoid confusion/miscommunication/accident. Always look out for danger while cycling especially. Avoid cycling during hours of poor visiblility (some drivers got mild night-blindness can not see us). Choose route that have minimum junctions (some people got the culture to go through red light). Always use red rear blinker(s) and white flashing front lights.

Use road bike for time saving and less tiring efforts. Avoid cycling with peak motorised traffic direction. Example: use PCN, Bus Lanes, and the likes.

I find other bikes tedious to use for commuting.

Have you try a foldy at half of the speed u r doing? I have been doing foldy since i started commuting in Dec 2007. It meet my requirement of locking it up in car park. My bike is always below my table. If i m not riding it home (due to rain or whatever reasons), it will be safe in my office.

TS, i have been commuting to work since Dec 2007 with foldie. My home is 5km away. It takes me less than 30mins from home to office desk (on 9th flr). I find it more convenient to commute with bike. No shower is required for me.
