Bill Comparisons May Not Reflect True Cost Differences

It is common knowledge that visits to private hospitals will cost more than those made at public hospitals, unless you register as private patients at the latter then maybe the rates will be on par.

So do make an informed decision before heading down to the respective hospital according to what you can afford.

PRIVATE V PUBLIC HOSPITALS

Bill comparisons may not reflect true cost differences

Published on Jun 26, 2012

I CONCEDE that costs in private hospitals are higher than those in public hospitals for private patients ('Private versus public hospitals: More than twice as costly'; last Friday).

However, there were a few omissions in the report:

Ya lor. Many good doctors my mum and dad liked in SGH and polyclinics have gone private. Now seeing FTs. They are nice and polite but skill wise I think not as good because younger.

Sort of riding in Conti vs China car - both can move but when bad things happen, you know which one you are going to be screwed in. :D

He is afraid of most competitions coming to private from the public hospitals.

I am sure those FT doctors from public hospital will want to work in private hospitals too.

So if more and more public doctors decided to go in private, the competition there will SUPRESSED his salary. He will have to share his patients with more private doctors operating privately. Losing clientele will mean less profit for him.

So he is indirectly cunning, to tell public hospital to pay their doctors higher, so none will defect to private to compete with him.

You bros watched the news two days' ago?

They showed footages of which you, or rather the elites, the rich and/or the famous, can expect from a stay in the latest private hospital next to Novena Sq (pls hor, not TTSH hor!!! [:p] )

The posh furnishings, expensive-looking beddings, big sofas, enormous LCD TVs and the rest gives you the impression that that was a high-end suite in a lux hotel rather than a hospital. [shocked]

Man, should have study hard hard last time.... [:(]

Twincharged

The good thing about "private" is that you get your problems tended to faster. Not just at private hospitals, but as private patients, i.e. without referral.

I chose to save costs by going polyclinic to get a referral for dental problem... wow! just securing an appointment can take 1-2 months waiting.

Then even after getting a referral, it is another 1 month+ wait before I can get an appointment with the specialist at the hospital concerned.

And I'm thinking if it turns out to be a serious condition... then I've wasted precious time.
