LTA considers it Category B. guess they were using bhp. Road Tax is accordingly. I think it was $2K for 6 months...

LTA is very good at making money, yah? [laugh]

ZERO emissions is a total BS though......... Electric cars creates just as much pollution compared to petrol/diesel cars...........

Well, not "just as much"...

Some say less than petrol/diesel:

Some say MORE than petrol engines (especially in China where they still burn coal to get electricity):

I just need to install some solar panels on my roof and truly become zero emissions!!!

Hahaha! That Fremont, CA factory they got from Toyota for cents to the dollar as Toyota was closing it down. Not sure how much unused space there is, but they are finally churning out 2,000 cars a month (Model S). I am going to have to tour that factory in the next 6 months.

True enough... any new technology will require more to initially produce and is hence not as efficient as a factory that has been stamping body parts for 30 years (and the CAPEX has been paid off). The efficiency curve will take probably 10 years to catch up and break even. sigh.. if only we, as humans, did not have to progress and want iPhones, Tablets, SmartTVs, etc. - the cave would be such a satisfying place.

Congratulations on your new car.

And a Salute for the courage to bring in and own one of its kind here.

Enjoy the silent ride on EV.

Do take care not to frighten folks by creeping slowly and silently from their back. :D

Everybody pays for COE.

But its the road tax on EV which is not so kind. Liken to pay more road tax to drive electric car.

Once the cost of manufacturing EVs come down and is near or equal to ICE cars, then the economics work in favour of EV cars as there will be lower running costs. Big oil will be fighting this the whole way. I wonder how SG gov't's close relationships with big oil refineries have affected their policies towards EVs...

The HP base formula for EVs is so much more than engine CC based formula.

So far apart in terms of road tax for same output between the 2 types.

I can draw some consolations from some Shopping Centres offering preference parking lots for EV/hyrid and some even CNG cars.

I am hoping that when my company moves to new location, there will be a plug where I get my season parking. Then this will hold me off until whenever I put solar panels in. :D

I have Class 2b license. I call up TP to ask what is the maximum output for electric motorcycle i could ride. In the end, the person on the phone told me that it is a motorcycle issue & told me to call up LTA.

Find a parallel importer that will bring the bike in for you and ask them to check the model with LTA. They have the contacts and will do this as part of the service. I did this with Supercars Singapore. They got preliminary ok from LTA for what the tesla should be and whether you can ride it with 2B license. If you are going to try to bring it in yourself, then you have to call up LTA.

LTA will not know whether i can ride with class 2b or not. Driving licensing is managed by TP.

LTA does not care about your license class. You need to tell them the model of the bike(s) and ask them to assess what is the equivalent CC engine size. If they can approve that the electric bike is rated in the 200cc category, then when it comes in, you can register it as a 2B bike and hence are allowed to ride it.
