Happily1986 5th Gear June 22, 2012 Share June 22, 2012 T34s were assembled in open air workshops during WWII If you are a keen enthusiast in armour warfare and the soviet theatre(s) of operations, you should watch the series "Soviet Storm: WW2 In the East" Operation Balgration was really To think that the at one point of Operation Barbarossa, the Soviets found themselves sieged at Leningrad and the enemy within striking distance of Moscow. The conflict eventually culiminated in the Soviets decimating Army Group North, South and Center. 3 Army Groups worth of panzers destroyed. I credit the Soviets to be the key element in the takedown of Nazi Germany. Had the Soviets not done so, i would hardly think that the Normandy landings would have amounted to anything. The Allied might have won the air war but it was the Russians who won the hard and gruelling ground war with obsolete T34 against the Panzer Tigers and Tiger Kings, outgunned no less. Vulcann 6th Gear June 22, 2012 Author Share June 22, 2012 Even after 32 years, i still like this vessel  The newest sub in the Russian Navy Kirov? Yep badass battle cruiser. Always thought it would be interesting if ever there was a WWIII last time when a Iowa-class BB would slug it out with the Kirov...
Bystander50 5th Gear June 22, 2012 Share June 22, 2012 F-35A: US$197 million (flyaway cost, 2012) F-35B: US$237.7M (weap. sys. cost, 2012) F-35C: US$236.8M (weap. sys. cost, 2012) How high will our defense budget be... F-15SG: EST. US$100 million (2006) For every 1 F-35A, you can get nearly 2 F-15SG I wonder if the RSAF will decide to acquire the new F-16V (Viper) anytime soon Can't helped but noticed in recent aircraft acquisations, the aircrafts purchased are mainly dual seaters. Wonder what's the reason? To prevent defections? Or both pilots to watch over each other?

Pocus Turbocharged June 22, 2012 Share June 22, 2012 One F-117 was shot down and the wreckage probably examined by the Russians and PRC. Maybe that's the reason why it was retired early. - I read in wiki it's very not cost effective to maintain and the techology is outdated hence decommissioned. - I read in the paper many years back they manage to detect the plane using simple cellular GSM signal - I read in the net even the J-20 chinese pilot say F117 tech is outdated and the J-20 is not based on it. The_Bear Turbocharged June 22, 2012 Share June 22, 2012 top gun must be your favourite movie Actually I hated Top Gun and Iron Eagle. It is quite difficult to make a good movie about modern air combat. Not very exciting to start with. WWII was different. Memphis Belle was good. Pocus Turbocharged June 22, 2012 Share June 22, 2012 Somehow i still liked the Spitfire more.. They position the wing so far up front, which makes it a unique beauty.. Spitfires, P-51s Me109s I learn all this in History channel One episode featured the Tuskegee Airmen in their P-51s....I fell in love with the P-51s after that! No quality, no quantity. Historically, Russian was never a sea-power. Mainly because of their doctrine in quality in quantity, their army were ahead, air-force nearly par, missile command not too far off.

Always thought the Shermans, Pershings, Panzer IIIs/IVs, Tigers & King Tigers were the ONLY tanks worth mentioning until I recently watched one episode of SH Ch455 History when the underrated T34s was featured. True it was not as advanced as western tanks, this Red Army metal beast was nonetheless a rugged tenacious fighter with its 76mm main gun & gave the Wehrmacht trying to concur the East a very hard time.
