They can be converted as advanced jet trainers as the RSAF did with their A4-SU. Engine old can be swapped out with new engine. Avionics down can be replaced modularly. If airframe untenable then no choice got to layup i acknowledge. Else, nothing wrong with keeping them.

Can be used in a second-line role as trainers but will be awfully expensive...

Most of the time the airframe is the problematic factor despite what you can do to upgrade or enhanced the avionics or engines.

心有余而力不足。

Maybe like what the US do with their retired fighters to be used as remote-controlled aerial target drones?

BTW thought they sold cheaply or gave the F404-engined Super Skyhawks away? Din know they are used as trainers. Always assumed the Italian M246 or M346 jet trainers stationed in Down Under are the only ones they are utilizing for student pilot trainings.

Bro you really into our AF [thumbsup]

Admittedly they are one potent force in SEA but my sights are always on the USAF & her sis services.

Paiseh very impressed with what they are equipped, which are always the most expensive and most advanced ones money can buy.

Hard not to be when they have arguably the most generous budget on the planet.

and more so when the direct adversary was the Scorpion light tanks till the fellas up north decided to get T-90s

Scorpion suppose to be armour recon vehicle, its 90mm will be too slow against other 25mm autocannon. . .

as for the Tee Niner , i not sure how good is their auto-loader. [laugh]

Potent as it sounds but how our pilots fair against potential adversaries? Hope we will never have to find out though..

also, air superiority is one thing how about defense? What remarkable weapons we have for air defense? What kind of SAM was employed?

I read somewhere that a good air defense network will give even the F22s a hard time.

But one thing for sure our AF is the most prepared AF in the region, at least logistically, should war come knocking at our doors.

Scorpion tanks are also another relic. The FCS is just as outdated is the AMX13. The armour also worst than AMX13. The only advantage is the speed but does it live up to the paper spec only our neighbours will know. You know you can buy a refurbished scorpion tank for just 500 pounds in UK? Cheaper than bike!

Now is leopard and pt91m and whatnot... Things just get more lethal....

Of course rate of fire cannot compete with cannon. I think it is more important to consider whether the calibre is sufficient to take down intended target and i believe that in this case, 90mm is more than enough for the scorpion light tank. SM1 also classified as light tank mah.

On paper the multi-air layer defence doctrine is very potent. Only quite recently it was bolstered by an additional stop-gap pin point system , the Igla. It wasn't mentioned too but i believe that the inherent anti air capabilities of naval surface combatants also make them automatically SAM assets when deployed in littoral waters. My only question is how the entire system scales up and how rapidly it can do so.

to take out a light tank, 75mm is more than enough. and light tank has the advantage of moving in thick jungle or rubber plantation. A MBT will get stuck there or the gun can't even rotate in order to take aim.

That's why saf never move to 90mm for their AMX13 during the older days. None of our neighbors have anything at need at 90mm to take out. The 75mm apfsds round was said to be able to penetrate a t-72 armor.

I think also once saw an A4 at NTU under their Aerospace Engineering Department's workshop.....

I believe there is another in Singapore Poly also.

Closer to home, it would be great if the RSAF museum could restore its exhibits to airworthy or taxi-worthy condition to show off during the Open House days, in a heritage flight just like this:

Notice the many similaries between the Viper and Mustang.

And the best part is both are excellent top-notch dog fighters in their respective eras [nod]
