Nothing you can do actually.  A lot of people said no law to regulate these case.

But I thought, cheating is already a chargeable offence lor.

You need to spend even more money to bring the cheat to justice as it is not regulated, so no SOP.

Proving he intentionally cheats you that is hard to prove

Limo company cars - yr 2008 can travel almost 300 K.

So its possible used cars odometer has been tempered with - exterior wise still looks good.

Be careful everyone

If inspection centres keep odometer records, at least new used car owners can confirm the mileage when sending for inspection.

Difficult to find out too if servicing not done regularly at Agent/same PI workshop

This private car's annual mileage is even higher than your limo company car's mileage..... like in this 2010 example  [:p]

Confirmed genuine mileage.

But the difference is that the high mileage is from highway speeds that clear carbon, so its engine breathes easier and  the wear and tear rate is minimal compared to  a lower mileage car that spent most of its life in the city.

Happened to chance upon a Saab 9-3 Convertible 2.0T linear, look like a real beauty in white knight, till I saw a recent service invoice billed at more than $2,000+ at 120,000Km servicing, upon checking further on the pictures taken, the odometer clearly shown to less than 50km less...

Isn't it ironic whom is the main culprit, the Saab was under consignment but in the hands of the dealer's advertisement.   :we-all-gonna-die:

Walk away when the dealer says low mileage and yet cannot produce reasonable service records.  Certain things are hard to hide for high mileage cars, like windscreen scratches, headlights, driver seat leathers etc.  For some brands, sticky buttons.

the reason why it is so difficult to prosecute an odometer fraud case is becos you never know who is the real culprit.

it could be the car owner before he sold to the dealer, or the car dealer and some cars are actually (cut) around dealers (transfer among the dealers).

Whichever devil in the making, it does bother me, both are evil doer and I shall stay far away so long as it's clear mandate on not regulating those used car dealer. I heard far too many story about them already. Sian !

Let the car dealers be the one legally responsible to ensure odo is not tempered.

Before car dealer buys in a used car (from private owners or other dealers), they do their due diligence (ground experience) to check to ensure car's odo read true.

They are the subject matter expert, there should be no excuse that they had been cheated by the previous owner.

Similar to landlord being ultimately responsible to ensure the property is not being rent out to illegal tenants and carrying out illegal activities on the premise. Ignorance is no excuse.

Let every party (owner sell to dealer , or dealer to dealer, or dealer to new car owner or owner sell to new owner) sign on a LTA form declare that the odometer is true and untempered. Penalties will be imposed if found out.

When someone needs to sign something on official document, they will wake up.

This one no need to adjust. Just drive another 1335km , the odo will reset to 0.

It is commOn practice by used car dealers, if not how to sell more cars and earn profit. Only naive buyers will trust them. Used car dealers also got family to feed as well.
