Bystander50 5th Gear June 26, 2012 Share June 26, 2012 I am a resident of Aljunied GRC. I am one of the 54.72%. Well, you have made your choice and I think the country's majority respects that. No qualms about it. Let's see how the WP will work for you and the community of Aljunied to lead better lives. But from the "progress" that they have made thus far since 2011GE ... or the last 21 years in HG, do you really hope for a paradigm shift to happen? The old guard PAP took only 6 years, from being an opposition party to a ruling one, to turn Singapore into an independent nation, free from British rule. Now, that in itself is a powerful statement, to say the least. The old guards did not have the capabilities to get us free from British rule. It is due to the heavy economic presssure back home and cost of maintaining a huge military presence after the war that the Brits eventually decided to pull out and grant gradual independance, starting from self-governance. P*P is not everywhere, but our surrounding neighbours Indo, Phillipines, India all got their independance. Even HK was returned back to PRC in a whole after 97. Did the Hongkies fight for it? Back then the HKies still preferred to be under British rule than under PRC. I guess even with another party governing SG, we would have got our independance ultimately. LKY was damm lucky in the sense that he was not arrested and the ISA applied onto him by the M'sian PM in 1965 for creating so much trouble and causing SG to be split from MY. Try doing that now and see what happens. ↡ Advertisement

The old guard PAP took only 6 years, from being an opposition party to a ruling one, to turn Singapore into an independent nation, free from British rule. Now, that in itself is a powerful statement, to say the least. you can continue to harp on the same issue but i will continue to point out that WP has only 6.8% of total votes in parliament so if PAP were to decide 1 day to increase GST to 48% to match germany, WP can do nothing but sit and watch so once again, what do you expect WP to do with 6.8% of the total seats in parliament? let us move on and stop questioning what progress was made, there has been and there will be no progress but let us question, since PAP has the great majority of the total vote. what progress has the PAP done for us? finally, i've also pointed out but you've failed to read it many times WP are deliberately very similar to PAP. they are not a true blue opposition and that is why singaporeans love WP. we don't want progress, if we wanted progress we would have voted SDP. what we want is an opposition who would stand up against stupid PAP policies, not one which will stand up against everything. this is progress enough in our eyes. also you are very misinformed. PAP did not gain us independence, do refer to your history textbooks PAP and other political parties were formed because the british promised independence, not the other way around! had the british not promised independence and PAP was formed, then PAP will be treated as communist rebels and squashed very quickly mind you do note that the incease in text sizes is important because you've missed out my points the 1st time and i'm repeating myself here Edited June 26, 2012 by Expertz
Expertz 1st Gear June 26, 2012 Share June 26, 2012 (edited) The majority of people (60.1% to be exact) STILL do not even want th WP to be in parliament and will not hesitate to give them the boot in 2016, if WP does not perform! With the current balance of power in electoral votes squarely against the WP, how can the crowd today and the current under-performing oppo even compare with the tense situation of 1959 and the great leaders-to-be that stood before them on stage ... with the promise of a better future? let us also not forget that many of us are voting for opposition parties we have never heard of until days before the election have you heard the NSP debunk? that NSP does not stand for nicole seah party? who are the NSP? what have they done? what are their roots? until today i don't know but what i know is that they have over 40% of the votes despite the masses not knowing the party at all. i'm going to assume that most of them are going into the voting booths blind with the single agenda of not voting PAP. i believe that most of us know lowtk, if WP had been competing in that ward, i believe that the ward might swing towards WP easily. another example is jurong's amy khor. she had a speech and put up a fight in parliament against PAP for better policies to help the poor and the sick. after going agianst her own employer to fight for the people, she had 80% of the total vote. what more must she do then? why would 20% vote against her despite her acting in our best interests? then finally during the presidential elections where 1 of them i don't know who, was a 100% opposition person. he had 30% of the total vote. if we wanted a 100% PAP backed president, shouldn't TT get 80% of the vote? why did he end up with 1/3rd of the total vote? of course this is my point of view but i believe my conclusion is justified by the logical points i've made. i don't know how you justify your 60.1% don't want WP in parliament figure but i find it perplexing that you can derive such a conclusion. it seems to me that there is no logical basis for your point of view and i am very interested to find out your logical thinking process.
