Windwaver Turbocharged June 18, 2012 Share June 18, 2012 Just changed to Amaron battery but battery indicator still lights up. Does that mean car alternator is faulty or fuse blown? How to check? ↡ Advertisement

Boxster 2nd Gear June 18, 2012 Share June 18, 2012 Normally the battery indicator indicates charging issues rather than battery problem such as unable to hold charge
Windwaver Turbocharged June 18, 2012 Author Share June 18, 2012 Normally the battery indicator indicates charging issues rather than battery problem such as unable to hold charge I see. In that case, is the alternator faulty or fuse blown? How much roughly to repair or change alternator?
Kb27 Supersonic June 18, 2012 Share June 18, 2012 Battery indicator is a charging problem, not battery problem. In most cases, it's usually due to a bad alternator. Price range from $300~$500 including parts and labour, depending on which workshop you go to.
Trafficwatch Clutched June 18, 2012 Share June 18, 2012 Yes, alternator not charging your battery already. To confirm simple steps: - start engine - dis-connect negative terminal of battery when engine is running / idling - if car stall immediately after disconnect the battery terminals, then it's confirmed alternator defective Cost to replace alternator depends on car models. - Re-codition between S$ 250 to S$ 600 - brand new between S$ 800 to S$ 1,400 or more

Jerrimie Clutched June 18, 2012 Share June 18, 2012 just go workshop and let them test lo. Even driven a Rav 4 with dying alternator and all of sudden power steering died on me. Chua sai sia.
Kb27 Supersonic June 18, 2012 Share June 18, 2012 I just changed my alternator for s$2k. Blardy kui! Alternator cost may be $250 onwards. Labour shouldn't cost more than $100, depending on how difficult it is to access and remove. + + all that the workshop want to make extra, yeah it can add up. Boxster 2nd Gear June 18, 2012 Share June 18, 2012 I see. My mileage is not even 20K, does a alternator fail that easily? If yr car is <20K and still covered under warranty you should got back to the AD workshop and let them diagnose
QQDreamer 4th Gear June 18, 2012 Share June 18, 2012 If yr car is <20K and still covered under warranty you should got back to the AD workshop and let them diagnose Probably TS car is a opc or a 2nd car in the family. Not sure abt the age of TS car. Not surprised that after couple of yrs the mileage is still below 20k. Mine 4yrs plus. Mileage less than 20k opc. Adrianli Hypersonic June 19, 2012 Share June 19, 2012 Yes, alternator not charging your battery already. To confirm simple steps: - start engine - dis-connect negative terminal of battery when engine is running / idling - if car stall immediately after disconnect the battery terminals, then it's confirmed alternator defective Cost to replace alternator depends on car models. - Re-codition between S$ 250 to S$ 600 - brand new between S$ 800 to S$ 1,400 or more The easiest way is to use a multimeter or voltmeter to check the voltage at the battery if it is 13+ to 14V. If it is, means alternator is working. If only 12+ to 11V, means alternator not working. No need to remove batt terminal.
