I thought the movie started off promising but it got a bit "same old same old" when the Alien part started.

 

Should have made it as a stand alone movie rather than an Alien prequel.

 

Would have been nicer if for example, they explored the behaviour and motivations of the David more.

You can search for discussions on the movie which contained quite a bit of spoilers but it offered quite a bit of in-depth thoughts about why the movie went in the direction of 'Alien' territory.

 

Basically the whole idea of this movie started from the 'Space Jockey' which was the pilot of the spacecraft that crashed landed in LV-426. He was carrying the Aliens somewhere. So this movie kinda explore who was the Space Jockey and his intentions prior to "Alien".

 

David is an android with the purpose of furthering Weyland's search for eternal live at whatever cost. The same purposeful android can be found in Ash in Alien, which imo caused the whole massacre by stopping the crew from killing the alien spawn when it just burst out of the chest of a 'first to die character'.

 

I haven't seen the movie, but I have read enough spoilers to know the story and not in the mood to pay $9 bucks to be scared. The first few Alien movies put me off lobsters and shell-fish for quite a while [laugh]

 

This one would probably put me off squids :D

I just watched the 4 Alien movies in Mio TV sometime back so the scenes of the old movies are still fresh in my mind.

 

I feel Promethus answered alot of questions on what happen on the first 30minutes of the original 1979 alien film. For someone who watch the old movies or for an "Alien" fanchise fan, this movie make alot of sense and you feel that you can finally rest easy as the questions that were unanswered for the last 33 years finally came to light.

 

We finally know who the space jockeys are and what are their purpose in the first movie.

 

However for a normal movie goer, if you have not seen the original alien movie and not really interest in the fanchise, this movie is mediocre at best. The plot fails to shine and can be considered overdone, even in videogame plots.

 

Another expect of the movie is the new "alien" which, IMO did not live up to it's expectations as the precursor to HG giger's original Alien. HG Gigger's Alien was way ahead of it's time when the 1979 movie is shown, so much that it's still scary now if not for the over-exposure from media. I remember not daring to fall asleep or go to dark places. The creatures of this movie is forgettable that I feel the Sotong "Kraken" in "pirates of the carribean" is more scary (pun intended).

 

The last scene and the middle "zombie" scene is totally unnessesary. I felt it's only there to satisfy the fanboys. But it leaves a very "B gradeish" feel to the movie.

 

Normal movie Goer: 3/5

Alien/AVP Fan: 4/5

Hardcare Alien fanboy: 4.5/5

In the prequel they had LCD screens and fancy holographic video screens. Hundreds of years later in the sequels, they went back to CRT and Apple II technology .. weird.

Or tech eventually owned by Apple?
