Aerosmith 2nd Gear June 7, 2012 Share June 7, 2012 Hi there, i have a 2005 legacy gt 2.0 stocki heard JB is much much much cheaper to repair and modify cars, is this true?what i intend to do is:1. repair suspension cause now got a lot of sounds like thud thud thud especially when go over slight rubble.2. repair gearbox cause when accelerate from gear 1 to gear 2 in the morning, there will be huge jerk. but its just my guess.3. repair the dashboard cause lots of cracks on the leather-looking material.4. maybe change seats to lighter ones cause current stock one leather spoil liao.5. maybe tune ECU so that turbo kicks in earlier, i heard rumors this improves FC, yay!6. maybe repaint entire car.7. maybe change exhaust to louder one that also improves bhpdoes anyone have any advice on the 7 items? like the estimated price, estimated savings, advice on the problems, suggestions for the modifications parts.thanks all. ↡ Advertisement

Hi, did you just buy the Lgt? good car :) yes JB is cheaper than SG, but as subaru is not a common car in Malaysia, consequently not many mechanics/workshops in JB are familiar with some subaru-specific issues. Also, spare parts are harder to come by. U may need to buy the spare part in SG and bring it to JB. the only subaru-specialist i know of in johor is in pontian, abt 50km northwest of JB. 1) susp: could be leaking shocks or worn bushings. Ask workshop to check. 2) gearbox: change atf first. When was it last changed? what atf was used? some atf last 20k km. Some last 40k km. 3) dashboard crack: common on legacy. Either rewrap to cover up (but problem with passenger airbag) or replace dashboard ( i heard $2000 fm motorimage?). 4) seats: yes aftermarket seats are probably lighter but need railings to match. Malaysia seats... SSCUS or replica branded ones if on budget. 5) tuning: not many tuners in JB familiar with legacy. SG tuner better. If tune for quicker spool and higher boost, FC will usually suffer. Better fc only if tuner leans out a/f ratio slightly, cos stock factory tune is usually slightly conservative/rich. IF driving subaru, forget abt good fc haha. 6) respray: JB cheaper but u hv to leave ur car there for a week or so... more troublesome and perhaps risky. 7) exhaust: JB hv cheap mufflers but not lta-friendly. Fine $500. more info on www.subaruclubsg.com the legacy guys also hv a legacy-specific forum but i don't have the link. rgds~

Holysniper Neutral Newbie June 8, 2012 Share June 8, 2012 For subarus, i seriously think you shld stay in SG and do, except for rewrapping of interior. Legacy have legal exhaust in SG. Repaint the whole car is cheap in Msia, but sometimes the quality can be quite bad..

Ah_rek 1st Gear January 19, 2014 Share January 19, 2014 Subaru? Do in sg pls... dun joke with the boxer engine.. u will end up spending more. Tuning requires experience , since no lgt in jb, wonwhich mech has experience. Things like fluid changes, alignment, paintjob, maintanance can be done in msia. Engine n performance wise i suggest u do in sg. ↡ Advertisement
