Seanboi 1st Gear June 6, 2012 Share June 6, 2012 I've been detailing my ride for years but have yet to see any burnt mark until recently, after sending it for grooming. In fact I wouldn't know how a burnt mark will look like if I didnt see one. Anyone experience burnt marks on your ride after grooming? http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showt...re-anyone/page2 From far it may look like a scratch mark especially if the bare metal/plastic is revealed. Question: Can hand polish create burnt marks? Cheers ↡ Advertisement
Mazdaowner Moderator June 6, 2012 Share June 6, 2012 Burn marks or burn swirls can be made by a rotary/orbital sander with a wool pad and liquid abrasive. By hand, highly not possible, will take sometime to run a burn mark out, besides, human hands don't have the speed to burn paint. Seanboi 1st Gear June 7, 2012 Author Share June 7, 2012 (edited) Yup I'm pretty sure it was caused by machine. I have lost faith in detailing centers, esp branded ones. Pointed out on the spot yet kena tai-chi. Having patronised our in-house groomers before, I strongly believe they can do a better job. As for the hand polish part, I did some polishing(using SRP) by hand couple of days ago to remove some poo mark that etched into the bumper. After exerting medium pressue, I noticed there was some uneven-ness/dullness at 2 spots. Texture felt different too. So I'm not sure whether I burnt/removed the clearcoat. Bro you mentioned speed, how about the amount of pressure applied? Edited June 7, 2012 by Seanboi

Dullness I guess could be due to your abrasive, the grit, in that case you will need to get either one that has diminishing abrasive that slowly breaks down into very fine grit, and do it slowly so it will end up as a nice polished shine. Poo stains need to be removed immediately, put a bottle of water in the car. Never do anything in anger, it doesn't work to your benefit. There are groomers and there are paint restorers. World of difference between the two, knowledge is King.

Bro you mentioned speed, how about the amount of pressure applied? IMO I don't think your SRP is the one that caused the problem. The problem probably had always been there. Maybe previously burnt before already. I tested on a spare panel and if you burn the clearcoat you can make it glossy again. That is if you never go all the way and burn the paint also. Maybe that is what your detailer do. They normally use rotary polishers which is even easier to burn a panel as compared to a DA polisher. My DA polisher when I tested with some menzerna polish, did not manage to go through the clearcoat even after pressing hard on the same spot for around 5 min. It doesnt look like a bird poo when I saw it. It just stuck to the side of the front bumper, yellow/brown in color and about 10cm long. Had a tough time removing the residue, it was kinda sticky. I dont really know when to use the term "groomers" and "paint restorers". Gen2, MD and Magnus are they called groomers or paint restorers? The popular brand I visited does provide paint correction services. Edited June 8, 2012 by Seanboi
Mazdaowner Moderator June 9, 2012 Share June 9, 2012 If you lazy to clean off then boh pian lor. SHEET happens. I cannot comment on your question below, MD is a good friend of mine, I'd say they are groomers and also paint restorers mixed.
