2013 Cruze

It's not fair to compare the Altis engine with Cruze engine, NA vs turbocharged. Cannot compare. The torque of the 1.4L turbo is 200Nm from below 2000rpm to 4000rpm. While the Altis is 154Nm at around 4000rpm.

But the power to weight ratio will have a different say.

The Altis is confirm lighter dan the Cruze. So when it comes to acceleration, 0-100km/hr I think both will have similar timings.

I think the drive from both cars will tell you which is better or more fun to drive.

Agree with you. The compact turbo definately delivers way more punch then the new altis. (in all ranges I must say)

My approach was more to like price range brackets when I was in different phases of car hunting. In this case I quoted the Altis & Cruze with the latter priced even higher.

Cheers

Unlike you, I only tested the new Vios and Elantra before making my decision. Vios was worse than my previous 2006 Honda City, so definitely out. The Elantra was quite attractive but the lack of road feel and tiny reverse put me off. Ultimately, my wife liked the Cruze for its comfort level and the unbeatable price.

errr...whats that???

So sorry I was referring to the tiny reverse camera built in the rear view mirror. Left out the word while typing on tablet keyboard.

Hence, in Sg, buy car jin complicated.

Yeah the most complicated is finding the money to buy the car,

the rest not so bad lah. I wish my MIL moved on and left me 45k.

I don't know which one will make me happier,

getting 45k or thinking my MIL going to a better place.

:D

Speaking of the reverse cam. I find the cruze estate cam unable to be aligned becos the centre part of the tailgate/boot is the button to release/lift boot. Hence the cam needs to be installed on the left side instead. N becos of this, the view is right biased. Luckily I have been so used to parking without camera/reverse sensors for so many years so its not really a big issue for me.

Estate/Wagons are good for loading up bicycles. Seems like the Cruze could be a good alternative to a Golf of similar engine spec.. :)

The estates are actually sedan height if u look from the exterior. So in terms of height, still lose out to the bigger mpvs. (but the cruze estate looks very sporty becos of this)

Its the boot that is interesting! U can dump foldable bikes x 2 and maybe 2 kid scooters. But to put in 1 full size mtb, u need to fold down the rear seats n go in slanted.

Yes like i said, if u like the new cruze estate looks, then ya, it is better in some sense over the single turbo golf with the 'sensitive' gearbox that comes with it.

http://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/newcars_specs.php?CarCode=10753&Subcode=3816

seems that the Cruze 1.4TC loss some weight. 1345kg. (iirc, previous was ~1440+ kg)

That makes it just 5kg heavier than the Mz3 !

The SE did mention to me that its weight is about 1350kg +-. My guess is becos of the efficient compact engine compared to previous 1.6/1.8 type.

But the door feels as solid and heavy as before. lol

Btw go see sgcarmart and you will not see a single facelifted Chevrolet Estate for sale atm, except for some Peugeot. (years 2011-2014).

The 2015 facelift Cruze is here at the AD but not for viewing. There's only one show car. Engine still the same 1.4L turbo.

I only get to see the rear picture of it. Anyway can see on youtube....

Neutral Newbie

I brought 2014 cruze last year, so far my experience about this car is:

Pros:

1) Aphine service center overall service and skill is good.

2) Pickup more powerful compare to normal non-turbo 1.6 vehicle, 2000rpm at 100km/h

3) Lots of car accessories.

4) Built for cruzing at expressway/fuel saver.

5) Car is well insulated.

6) GPS system is very useful.

7) Original tire from hankook K415 is very good, silent and effective.

Cons:

1) Normal city driving not really fuel efficient, my mileage is about 8.6l/100km

2) Bodykit not much choice in Singapore, need to import.

3) Wheel pcd is not common 5x105, need to import

4) DIY is difficult due to solid panel, difficult to remove.

Still tracking on car reliability since is korea made.

Just to add on to kiakoup's post, I own a 2013 facelifted Cruze (1.6 non-turbo model).

1) Aphine service center overall service and skill is good.

(Can agree with that. My experience with them has been pleasant with them so far.)

2) Pickup more powerful compare to normal non-turbo 1.6 vehicle, 2000rpm at 100km/h

(Agree. I tested the Cruze 1.4T and it is a lot faster than my 1.6)

3) Lots of car accessories.

(Did chrome trimming for my windows.)

4) Built for cruzing at expressway/fuel saver.

(Agree. Very stable on expressways.)

5) Car is well insulated.

(Totally agree, minus the fact that my 1.6 can be a bit noisy at low speeds.)

6) GPS system is very useful.

(Agree. Maps were updated for me when I go for servicing as well.)

7) Original tire from hankook K415 is very good, silent and effective.

Cons:

1) Normal city driving not really fuel efficient, my mileage is about 8.6l/100km

(You are lucky. I average about 10.6l/100km so far for my 1.6l, based on 90% city driving and less than 10km per trip.)

2) Bodykit not much choice in Singapore, need to import.

(You can always get from Taobao.)

3) Wheel pcd is not common 5x105, need to import

(I didn't know of that. I am happy with the design of the stock 16in rims though.)

4) DIY is difficult due to solid panel, difficult to remove.

In terms of reliability, it depends on your luck. I was unlucky as mine had quite a few problems during my course of ownership. Less than a week after receiving car, rain sensor wiper stopped working due to blown fuse. Power window went crazy (winds down on its own) after a year. Checked and replaced faulty motor. Just recently in January, I got a "Code 89" which the service centre deny having such a code. Checked and turns out that one of the thermostat was faulty and got it replaced. Even though faced with these problems, I am still generally happy with the car as in all cases, Alpine Motors rectified them for me without any delays or additional charges.

I suppose the Turbo version should be better as its newer. When I received my car in June 2013, I noted that the date of manufacture was actually 2012. Means that it had been sitting in the warehouse for some time before delivery. Just be sure to check with the salesperson before buying.
