"The old folk will be groaning right into my home."

Hi, I also stay in this area. As far as I know, they have chosen this plot of land for this purpose many years ago already. They have already decided that this plot is definitely for some sort of nursing home or old aged home. Its just that there wasn't a need for it yet. Then now one of the nursing home in Toa Payoh is going to renovate or something and need to shift somewhere else. So they just start building here since its the nearest designated area for a nursing home already.

They did not use the plot of land near Blk 155 because there are other plans for it already. That plot is definitely much bigger and to them its probably a waste to build a nursing home there. There is also a home for the intellectually disabled near there already. Maybe they don't want to put it too close together. The plot of land chosen for the nursing home is too small to build anything else also.

Even if now the residents are successful in getting them to stop building this nursing home there, eventually there'll be some other nursing home/home for the intellectually disabled/old aged home built there anyway since that has always been the plan for that plot.

Why would knowing people living in that nursing home going to die give you goosebumps? Then in the future if your neighbors all grow old and fall sick and going to die how? You'll shift out? Bishan used to be a cemetery also anyway. Many dead people buried there before. Doesn't this give you goosebumps?

On a separeate note: i am not sure, but it would be good if HDB, or town planners, were more transparent by telling the public in advance where such facilities are going to be develope so that those who choose to live there do it with the knowledge that a home will be built later. They do inform the public future developments eg libraries, bus-interchanges, MRT stations etc ie all the "good news" but should also anncounce where homes etc will be build and not hide such "bad things" (at least to some people).

The above does not mean having homes nearby is absolutely good or bad, its about transparency.

Anyway I think it'll be better if the residents can give better suggestions on how to make it affect them less rather than ask them not to build it there. Since its already confirmed that some sort of home will be there. No matter what the residents say, some sort of home will be built there. Its just a matter of time.

Some landscape or trees as screens between HDB flats and the home may help.

I used to live near two homes, but the designs and the landscape of the homes made them fit into the surrounding residential atmosphere quite nicely. No issue.
