today I spoke with a few PRs over lunch.

All said if they become citizen they will vote Pap. Because they are where they are, meaning ,successful in SG is due to the policies that helped them achieve their dreams.

While all of you celebrate this win for WP, the next strategy of Pap has already begun to secure their stronghold over a majority of parly seats.

You guys just watch and see the subtle increase in the number of citizens and the decline of FTs and PRs..

From massaged number game.

We're screwed.

when i talk about our P@P, all my chinese colleagues stand to defend them....say they are good....this minister is good...that minister is good...

I ask them...shut their mouth...cos they do not know the past.....and not fit to comment anything...

So ultimately I feel FT are not brought in to contribute btw......they are here to dilute us....and increase support for specific party.... as they know more and more sporean...are getting more TL...

My take is that the big boys destroyed DCs campaign. People are more savvy and sensitive to those mudslinging and have had enough of it

Well done Hougang voters!

People nowadays are better educated and better informed. Thanks to the internet, everyone can grasp the fuller picture.

The old tactics can now only Pian Ah Pek.

One thing I'm impressed with Desmond is that he is really gracious in defeat and gentlemanly in offering his well-wishes to Png.

if not what you want him to do? he still have to fight again in 2016. only until he really can win then you will see his true color.

remember who cried during election and now make you cry?

Seriously, but what else could he possibly say?

When asked with an array of questions by the reporters, he gave a standard answer, "I want to thank the residents of Hougang".

Supercharged

2 DPMs/ 3 ministers...

the pap utilize the entire party machinery, media/newspapers/radio stations/ bombard 24/7 for 9 days...

look how much ground Desmond has gained... its stellar progress

highly commendable

No, plus PM himself. He even came to hougang to shake hands with residents. His face still not big enough for voters to change their votes

There is a reason why hg upgrade program screwed up, that all such requests have to go through PA grassroots head by DC. And all DC can promise are localise upgrades rather than national policies at the beginning of byelection. WP request for upgrades is still pending!

Ppl, analyse this and u will noe boyish DC also not so all for hg people wat!

I think its time sporeans put more important issues above upgrading. After all, when u upgrade, its still a pigeon hole. And i cant help but notice in opposition wards in potong pasir last time n hg, its not too crowded n rather peaceful. Then they start bldg things n the serene feeling is gone.

It only shows hg vote for party , not for the person. Which makes sense.

The 60.1 always say they vote for best candidate. Pls la, who holds the stick? A party's policies hold much more importance than the candidate that is being put up.

asiaone :

While Mr Choo acknowledged that there is "lots of work to be done", he believed that the outcome was "an affirmation that our work is moving in a correct direction".

After speaking to the media, the PAP went inside for a closed-door meeting at its Hougang branch office

Outside, labour chief Lim Swee Say was heard agreeing with a supporter that a 3 per cent increase is still an improvement.

These people really bluffing themselves, dunno issit too much Chivas or marijuana .... say so much over a pathetic 150 votes....

Small Lee on todayonline :

Clearly, many Hougang voters were impressed by Desmond's sincerity, compassion, and commitment, and attracted by the PAP's message of change and hope. But unfortunately there were not quite enough of them for Desmond to win.

Desmond Choo: Change has begun

'We have more residents now believing in our vision of change, in our vision of a new beginning. I'm excited and encouraged,' he told reporters after the results were announced.

'We still have touched the hearts of many people.'

The North East Community Development Council covers:

(d) SMCs of Hougang and Punggol East.

The Mayor of North East District is Mr Teo Ser Luck, MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and Adviser to Punggol Central GROs.

Grassroots advisor has access to CDC funds which comes from the People's Association. Possibly the reason why they are not giving away the position to WP.
