what WP should do is focus on where they came close last election and slowly work there.

aljunied took 2 elections to topple.

i cant say it wont happen for the other WP wards.

if "trends" are maintained, the entire east side will be WP controlled,

aljunied, hougang, east coast and joo chiat

One key area WP need to do is recruit more people like CSM.... with people like him....half battle won...

aljunied fallen.

hougang fallen.

based on 2011, next 2 to go will most prob be

joochiat SMC

east coast GRC

next GE can be something like-

45% miw, 55% oppo

miw retain power.

I think the MIW is starting to feel that GRC system which served them so well can be a double edge sword soon. Starting from 2011 GE, they have reduced the number of 6 member GRCs into 5, and some 5 member GRCs have become 4. I believe they will start to carve out more SMCs which they are confident of capturing from GRCs soon. But even then, there is no foolproof way to do so anymore. They allowed Joo Chiat SMC to remain as a SMC for 2011 GE, as the incumbents there have always enjoy good support of 60-70%. I think never in their imagination did they expect that the vote swing of JC in 2011 is so great that they almost lost it despite it being supposedly safe SMC for them.

Since GE 2011, they realised that the system which had been serving them so well for the past few decades isn't completely fool-proof anymore.

Thus, the new solution is to import in votes from new citizens. But this is not without risks as these citizens may soon vote against them if the policies worked against them.

There is no short-cut solution for the incumbents. Either they bite the bullet and do things the hard way by thoroughly revamping the entire system, or attempt band-aid solutions which will only be good for a few years.

Looking at the leadership of the current PM, it is the beginning of the end for them.

It is possible. Say PAP loses quite badly in 40 out of 47 seats. % less than 40% in these 40 seats. but won narrowly (51-52%) in 47 seats. so overall they still form the govt cos win more than half of the seats but because they scored very badly in the seats that they lost, so overall votes drop to 45% but still win more than half of the available seats.

What are the reasons for Joochiat ? I know the reason for East Coast is bcz of Zorro ?

I think there is no specific reasons for Joo Chiat, just that many people start to lose faith in PAP govt nationwide and the previous more well-liked MP Chan Soo Sen had stepped down and in came Charles Chong who is in his maiden year at JC. Coupled with WP fielding one of their better candidates in Yu, all these help to put up a very strong showing for WP. I believe the % swing of votes for JC is the largest in any ward for GE 2011. Over 15% or so.
