If you suggest that ministers only can get pay rise of $50, then they will tell you that due to their highly and stressful job, $50 doesnt justify what they are doing! [rolleyes]

sometimes, i wonder how those top ppl feel when they suggests 50 extra a mth for the low income, when they makes 50k a month...

Someone mentioned before that when the prime minister goes to the loo to do business and come back to his desk later, the cost in terms of the time he spent is more than a low wage workers' monthly salary liao... [rolleyes] [rolleyes]

I am just saying, we need a better solution rather than just raising the pay of the worker.

suspend paying 7% GST, until inflation drops to 2-3%?

News reported today that NTUC will increase their staff who is earning less than $1000, a pay rise of $140! [rolleyes] This is almost 3 times higher than the recommended amount.

The biggest joke about this $50 wage increase is seeing all those high-powered people in the councils and panels discussing it at length. I think, privately, each member must be thinking... "what? $50 not even enough for one dinner, and here we are all wasting so many hours deliberating over it!" [laugh]

In employers point of view, $50 to them is very BIG. Imagine if every employees increase $50, and the total headcount is 1000, the employer needs to spend quite a huge extra of money! [rolleyes]

If the headcount is 1,000 the company is probably a large one with a high turnover so an additional $50k may not be that significant in operational costs.

The impact will be felt maybe in those SMEs with 10-50 low wage staff on its payroll.

Salaried workers need to increase increase increase productivity to earn more cents and dollars.

Top Guns need to be paid high competitive salaries to attract their perceived talent.

I believe no matter how many headcount in that company or whether that company is big or small. In the eyes of employer, they surely want to keep their operational costs as low as possible.

Its really sad to hear the attack from LSS who still wants everyone to be cheaperer betterer fasterer.

Such words of wisdom, I wondered whether he is also practicing it.

Usually people on the top would want people below to be better, faster and cheaper. But dont think they themselves is practicing. Simple example is their salary always should be high, whereas people below no need to take so high salary.

This is a sickness in countries with wide income gap. These countries have good economy but the wealth is hog at the top level..

They rewards themselves handsomely base on good economic growth. When workers ask for their small share of the growth, they tell the workers these will drive up operation cost, business will move to else where, business will not sustain, loss of jobs..etc.. Seems the low pay of workers is the key of doing business in Singapore so top level can still reward themselves..

The situation is akin to rich landlords and poor peasants.

Historically, this leads to a revolution.
